WWE SmackDown results: Cain Velasquez makes a shocking debut, targets Brock Lesnar on Fox premiere(Cain Velasquez News)

Some fans have long yearned for Brock Lesnar to be included in a program at WWE with someone who poses at least a legitimate threat to the former UFC Heavyweight Champion.

Well, it doesn’t get any more legitimate than the man who took the UFC heavyweight belt from Lesnar nine years ago. On Fray night, at the conclusion of the premiere episode of WWE SmackDown on Fox, UFC heavyweight Cain Velasquez made his stunning WWE debut, immediately taking aim at his former Octagon rival.

Lesnar captured the WWE Championship in just seconds on Fray by dethroning Kofi Kingston. As Lesnar celebrated his title win, Rey Mysterio’s music took off as some assumed he was coming in revenge for Lesnar’s attack, which took place on Monday night’s Raw.

Mysterio dn’t come alone, however, as he was flanked by his longtime friend Velasquez at the top of the ramp. Velasquez removed his shirt, stepped into the ring and began beating Lesnar on the mat until the new WWE Champion pulled out.

Lesnar teased him about getting back in the ring for more brawling, but in typical Heel fashion, the “Beast Incarnate” dn’t want to take part. Velasquez, 37, defeated Lesnar in dominant fashion via first-round TKO at UFC 121 in October 2010 to end his heavyweight championship after just two successful title defenses.

He last appeared at the Octagon earlier this year in February, a first-round TKO loss to rising heavyweight Francis Ngannou that also resulted in a serious knee injury. While debuting on WWE TV Fray night, it was reported after the airing of SmackDown that Velasquez has yet to paper and sign with the company. Velasquez is reportedly in “advanced talks” with WWE, though he hasn’t officially retired from UFC, according to ESPN.

“That’s definitely my focus,” Velasquez told ESPN. “My family is there, they love it. You are super excited. I haven’t seen her excited about something like this in a long time. It’s cool.”

Velasquez has given much thought to the ea of making a move to pro wrestling over the past year. Last summer he took a trip to the WWE Performance Center where he spent some time setting up some training.

This year, the longtime pro wrestling fan took it a step further, battling for Mexico’s most prominent promotion, AAA, during both its annual TripleMania event and the company’s foray into the United States at the Hulu Theater in Madison Square Garden.

According to a report by MMAjunkie’s Mike Bohn, Velasquez intends to retire from the USADA testing pool. This move would end his time as a UFC fighter and signal a move to pro wrestling. However, Vasquez recently stated that he would only become a full-time wrestler after undergoing necessary knee surgery.

It is unknown if WWE plans to conduct the Lesnar-Velasquez program immediately or perhaps hold it until WrestleMania 36 in Tampa, Flora. Depending on the severity of the knee surgery Vasquez needs, postponing a potential match could allow ample time for recovery while Lesnar feuds with Mysterio.

Recently, reports have surfaced that a small bding war for Velasquez’s services was raging between WWE and upstart All Elite Wrestling, with the latter emerging as the favorite as Velasquez worked with and coached AEW superstar and executive vice present Cody Rhodes while at AAA .

Ultimately, however, WWE appears to have won, and we find ourselves on our way to one of the more intriguing feuds we’ve seen Lesnar involved in since his return to the company in April 2012.

American mixed martial artist and professional wrestler

Caín Ramirez Velasquez[5] (born July 28, 1982) is an American retired professional wrestler and mixed martial artist[6] who currently performs for Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide (AAA). He is best known for his time in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, where he competed in the heavyweight division and became a two-time UFC heavyweight champion.[7]

In 2019, Velasquez retired from mixed martial arts. That same year, Velasquez began a professional wrestling career, initially working for Mexican lucha libre promotion AAA before moving to American WWE promotion. In April 2020, he was released from his WWE contract due to budget cuts resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.[8]

In March 2022, he was charged with attempted murder and other charges of assault with firearms after allegedly shooting at a man who allegedly molested a four-year-old relative of Velasquez’s.[9]

Early life and education[edit]

Caín Velasquez was born in Salinas, California to Efraín and Isabel Velasquez. Efraín had moved to the United States as an illegal immigrant from Sonora,[10] Mexico,[11] where he met American-born Isabel. They began a relationship and later married, allowing Efraín to obtain US citizenship.[12] The Velasquez family had three children: Efraín Jr., Adela, and Caín.

His next opponent should be Shane Carwin[23] with the victor likely going to fight for the UFC Heavyweight Championship held by Brock Lesnar. However, that fight was called off[24] and Velasquez was instead told he would fight UFC rookie Ben Rothwell at UFC 104.[25][26] He defeated Rothwell by TKO in the second round.

Velasquez faced former Pride Heavyweight Champion and former UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira on February 20, 2010 at UFC 110. Early in the fight, some commentators predicted that Nogueira would claim the win due to an alleged lack of punching power for Velasquez. On March 2, Velasquez was formally charged in court with one count of attempted first-degree murder, as well as multiple additional charges, including shooting from a motor vehicle, three assaults with a firearm, three assaults with a deadly weapon, one count of intentionally discharging a firearm from a vehicle and a count of carrying a loaded firearm with intent to commit a crime.[9][88][89][90] On March 7, Velasquez was denied bail after the judge ruled that the “risk was too great” for Velasquez to cause any further problems to the public.[91] Velasquez’s attorney, Mark Geragos, presented 37 letters of support for Velasquez from individuals including Dana White, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Fabricio Werdum, Kelvin Gastelum, Henry Cejudo, Daniel Cormier, Cung Le, Islam Makhachev, and Scott Coker.[92] On April 12, 2022, the judge granted an extension until May 6 for a hearing.[93] At the May 6 hearing, the second extension was granted, postponing the hearing to June 10.[94] On May 16, Velasquez was denied bail a second time, with the judge citing his “reckless disregard for human life.”[95] At the June 10 oral hearing, a third sequel was requested by both parties due to investigative problems, and after prosecution agreed, the hearing was scheduled to take place on June 30.[96]

On June 29, news emerged that a civil lawsuit had been filed against Harry Goularte Jr. on behalf of Velasquez’s son, alleging that Goularte had sexually molested him.[97] The lawsuit was also filed against Goularte’s mother and stepfather, who run the childcare business where the alleged molestation took place.[97]
