Cam Gigandet is a movie star. Not because he’s in movies – which of course he is (Twilight, Burlesque, Easy A) – but because he happens to be drop dead gorgeous, irreverent and beyond reproach and in that old-school Scotch-and-Breathe -Camel- Lights somehow.
In short, the guy is a total badass. Need more evence? When I meet the 31-year-old for a round of Old Fashioneds at Santa Monica hotspot SHOREbar, he’s bringing a crumpled change of clothes in a raffia cabana bag and a hip flask “just in case.”
(It’s all just Johnny Depp.) But Gigandet — pronounced “gee-gone-day” — who stars in CBS’ fast-paced new legal drama “Reckless,” which premieres this Sunday at 9 p.m. EST, also makes the perfect drinking buddy.
He’s the guy who lets you taste his cocktail, watches the traffic on the Pacific Coast Highway for you and wears his heart on his sleeve. Speaking of sleeves (the inked kind), don’t mention his, okay? It’s kind of a touchy subject.
So, Cam. You’re very good looking. Is that your dad or your mom’s fault?
It’s not that my parents are good looking, they’re both very cute. I think my dad is 5’8″ and my mom is like a bunny. She’s like 5’2″ or 5’3″.
Your new show, the legal drama ‘Reckless,’ was filmed in Charleston. Is that a cool city to work in?
It’s a cool city – I like the east coast. I don’t like nice weather. I don’t live in L.A. for the weather.
Where would you live it wasn’t for the work?
I would live in New York in the winter and somewhere else where it rains in the summer. I just always—I just prefer rain. Maybe San Fran or London.
D you pick up any law jargon on set?
“Objection!” [Laughs] I think I have? My arguments are not very legal. It’s like, “Fuck you. You’re wrong.” Boom. Done. “You were defended by a lawyer.” The only thing I still say from that show that I find amazing is, “Bless your heart.”
