Byron Allen Folks[1] (born April 22, 1961)[2] is an American businessman, comedian, television producer, philanthropist and head of the US entertainment company Entertainment Studios.
Early life and education[edit]
Allen was born in Detroit but grew up in Los Angeles.[2] His interest in show business began in childhood when he accompanied his mother, Carolyn Folks[3], to NBC Studios in Burbank, where she worked as a publicist.[4]
At the age of 14, Allen put together his first stand-up routine and performed at amateur nights at comedy clubs throughout the Los Angeles area.[4] Allen attended high school at Fairfax High School in Los Angeles and college at the University of Southern California.

Comedian Jimmie Walker saw Allen’s stand-up act and invited the 14-year-old comedian to join his comedy writing team alongside promising young comedians Jay Leno and David Letterman. At the age of 18, Allen made his television debut on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. One of his earliest roles was as a regular host on the NBC series Real People, where he joined the cast early in the second season.
His show Jammin’ was recorded as Kickin’ It with Byron Allen in 1992 and ran for more than 21 seasons. Allen’s foray into television production began in Los Angeles in 1993 when he founded Entertainment Studios with the launch of his first series – Entertainers with Byron Allen – a weekly hour-long series showcasing current stars of film and television.
In 2018, Entertainment Studios acquired The Weather Channel from NBCUniversal, Bain Capital and The Blackstone Group.[5][6]
In 2019, he partnered with Sinclair Broadcast Group within Diamond Holding Group to acquire regional Fox Sports Networks, the sale of which The Walt Disney Company was a condition of the purchase of 21st Century Fox and Diamond, renamed Bally Sports Holding Group agreed.[7 ]
In February 2022, Allen made an offer to buy the Denver Broncos.[8] Allen was eventually outbid by S. Rob Walton.

In 2018, Allen was selected for the Bloomberg 50 as one of “Persons in Business, Entertainment, Finance, Politics, Technology and Science Whose Achievements in 2018 Were Most Notable”.[11] He was also named one of the 100 Most Fascinating Entrepreneurs at the 2018 Goldman Sachs Builders & Innovators Summit, and he was honored by the Salvation Army and the Los Angeles Metropolitan Advisory Board at the Salvation Army’s 11th Annual Christmas Kettle Luncheon.[12] In January 2019, Allen received NATPE’s 16th Annual Brandon Tartikoff Legacy Awards,[13] presented during the annual NATPE Miami Marketplace & Conference. Allen received the 2019 Whitney M. Young Jr. Award[14] at the 46th Annual Los Angeles Urban League Awards Dinner.

Hester’s first album was produced by Norman Petty in 1957. She recorded her second album in 1960 for Tradition Records, operated by the Clancy Brothers. She is best known for The House of the Rising Sun and She Moved Through the Fair. [1]
Hester was one of many young Greenwich Village singers who rode the crest of the 1960s folk music wave and helped found Gerde’s Folk City in 1960. She appeared on the cover of the May 30, 1964 issue of the Saturday Evening Post. According to Don Heckman of the Los Angeles Times, Hester was “one of the originals — one of those small but determined bands of ragtag folksingers of the early ’60s who cut through cafes and campuses drove from Harvard Yard to Bleecker Street that their music could help change the world.” Nicknamed “The Texas Songbird,” Hester was politically active and spearheaded the controversial boycott of the television show Hootenanny when Pete Seeger hit the was blacklisted.[2]
John H. Hammond signed Hester to Columbia Records in 1960. That same year, Hester met Richard Fariña and they married 18 days later. They separated after less than two years. In 1961, Hester met Bob Dylan and invited him to play on her third album, her first on the Columbia label. Recorded at Columbia Studios in New York City in September 1961, this album was Bob Dylan’s first official recording. Hammond, their producer, quickly signed Dylan to the label.[1][3] Hester turned down the opportunity to join a folk trio with Peter Yarrow and Paul Stookey, who then rose to fame with Mary Travers as Peter, Paul & Mary. Hester worked with Bill Lee and Bruce Langhorne but focused solely on traditional material. Failing to establish herself as a folk-rock artist in the late 1960s, she explored psychedelic music as part of the Carolyn Hester Coalition before migrating from the music industry of the time.[1]
Hester has disputed David Hajdu’s account of her marriage to Fariña in his book Positively 4th Street: The Lives and Times of Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, Mimi Baez Fariña and Richard Fariña. She has claimed that his description of the relationships between Dylan, Baez, Hester and the Fariñas was exaggerated. She has denied that Fariña was as close to Dylan as some rock historians claim, and has staunchly denied that Fariña was in any way responsible for Dylan’s success as Hajdu claimed. Hajdu also suggested that Hester had an ongoing rivalry with Baez and her sister Mimi. To this day, Hester claims, to the contrary, that she did not know and knew Baez well and that they were not rivals, either personally or professionally.[2]
In 1969, Hester married jazz pianist, producer and songwriter David Blume, composer of The Cyrkles Top 40 hit “Turn Down Day” in 1966. Together, Hester and Blume founded the Outpost label. They also started an ethnic dance club in Los Angeles.
She returned to recording and touring in the 1980s. She and Nanci Griffith performed Bob Dylan’s “Boots of Spanish Leather” at Dylan’s 30th Anniversary tribute concert at Madison Square Garden in 1992.
In 1999, Hester released a Tom Paxton tribute album. She appeared on the A&E television show Biography of Bob Dylan in August 2000. Hester received the World Folk Music Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003.[4]
Blume died in the spring of 2006. Hester closed the dance club Cafe Danssa a year after his death.
She continues to perform and tour with her daughters Amy Blume and Karla Blume. They recorded an album We Dream Forever which was released in 2010.[5]

So Tom stays home with Bill while everyone else sees Lewis having fun as the MC, while Mary drives Chris insane but is satisfied when Bonnie slides over a dried fish. At home, Tom discovers that Bill only pretended to be badly injured to avoid the Lithuanian train.

Lewis tries to cheer him up by visiting “amazing” places in Kansas like the world’s largest barn, but that only makes Lewis happy when he’s finally able to cross the county line. However, Tom helps the Kellys turn the traditional Thanksgiving into a celebration of New York’s five boroughs.
