According to an announcement by Ford Performance on Saturday (h/t NASCAR.com), Hallie Deegan will race full-time in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

Deegan’s first full-time season will be in 2021, but she made her debut at the Clean Harbors 200 at Kansas Speedway on Saturday.

Deegan finished third in the ARCA Menards Series rankings that season, amassing two second-place finishes alongside four top-5s and 17 top-10s.

The 19-year-old signed a deal with Ford’s driver development program after previously teaming up with Toyota Racing. She raced in the ARCA Menards Series West for two seasons before moving to the main series ARCA Menards in 2020.

Early life and career[edit]

Busch was born in Las Vegas, Nevada. He received his first driving lessons at the age of six, driving a makeshift go-kart around the cul-de-sac of his family’s Las Vegas neighborhood.[4] Although unable to reach the accelerator, Busch was able to pick up the basics from his father Tom, who controlled the accelerator while Busch drove the vehicle. Busch worked with his father and older brother Kurt in the family garage growing up, becoming crew chief for his brother’s midget car team at the age of ten.

Busch began his driving career in 1998, just after his 13th birthday; From 1999 to 2001, Busch won over 65 races in legendary auto racing events and won two track championships at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Bullring short track before transitioning to late model racing during the 2001 season.[5]

At age 16, Busch competed in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, driving the #99 Ford for Roush Racing as a replacement for Nathan Haseleu, who was fired midway through the 2001 season. He made his debut at Indianapolis Raceway Park and finished 9th in his first race of the series. In his second race at Chicago Motor Speedway, he was leading until his truck ran out of fuel with 12 laps to go.[9]

At Dover on 6 May 2019 his 10th place finish equaled the record of consecutive top ten finishes to start a season by tying Morgan Shepherd with 11. As of 2022, he is tied with Richard Petty for most consecutive seasons by a win, with 18.

In 2005, at the age of 19 years and 317 days, Busch became NASCAR’s youngest pole winner in a Cup Series race at California Speedway. He is the youngest driver to qualify for the 2006 Chase for the Sprint Cup. Busch also became the first driver to win a Cup Series race and championship in a Toyota, winning the 2008 season at Atlanta Motor Speedway and the 2015 Cup Championship. In addition, he is the only driver to have won four consecutive spring races at Richmond International Raceway (2009–2012) and was also the inaugural winner of the inaugural Cup Series race at Kentucky Speedway in 2011.

His biggest win came in December 2009 when he won heat 42 of the Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida. Busch won the snowball derby again in December 2017.[18]

On July 10, 2011, Busch won the 32nd annual Slinger Nationals at Slinger Speedway in Wisconsin. Two weeks later, Busch won the 38th annual TD Bank 250 presented by New England Dodge Dealers at Oxford Plains Speedway; it was his third attempt to win the event. Busch was only the second active driver in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series to win the event, New England’s biggest short-distance race, and joined Kevin Harvick as the only other active Sprint Cup driver to win the race with his 2008 victory. Busch was one of several American drivers considered to drive for the US-based US F1 Formula One team. Busch was scheduled to test a Toyota F1 car at the end of the 2008 racing season, but had to cancel the test due to a commitment to attend the 2008 Nationwide Series banquet.

In 2020, Busch raced the 24 Hours of Daytona for AIM Vasser-Sullivan driving a Lexus RC F GT3 alongside Jack Hawksworth, Parker Chase and Michael De Quesada. Busch drove four and a half hours while his team finished 26th overall and ninth in the GTD class.[33]

Nitro Rallycross, a rallycross series founded by former NASCAR driver Travis Pastrana, invited Busch to host the November 2021 race weekend at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park.[34] Busch was fourth in the Supercar finale, with Pastrana winning the race.

Charity Efforts[edit]

In 2006, after visiting St. John’s Home in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Busch established the Kyle Busch Foundation.[35] According to the foundation, “The Kyle Busch Foundation strives to provide essential tools to unfortunate children across the country.”[36] Busch also has personal sponsorship deals with Monster Energy and Electric Visual,[37][38] both of which appeared on his late model at some point.

During the 2008 season, Busch announced the “Kyle’s Miles” program in partnership with Pedigree to help breed dogs in shelters and rescue organizations.[39]

On May 24, 2011, Busch was charged with reckless driving and speeding near Troutman, North Carolina when he drove 206 km/h (128 mph) in a 72 km/h (45 mph) speed limit zone.[49] He issued a public apology, stating that he “got carried away” while testing a Lexus LFA. On August 23, 2011, he was fined $1,000 and had his license suspended for 45 days after pleading guilty to speeding. He was also sentenced to 30 hours of community service and sentenced to one year of unsupervised probation.[51] On April 29, 2014, Busch was subpoenaed for driving 97 km/h (60 mph) in a 72 km/h (45 mph) speed limit zone on NC 73 in Denver, North Carolina. Busch claimed he thought the top speed was 89 km/h. The officer claimed that Busch had taken an “disrespectful attitude.”[52]
