In the parking lot, Emmett was shot dead by Rob Hall, Kandi’s husband. When Ashlee found out about the affair and her husband’s death, she had to deal with a whirlwind of emotions. She said: “It just didn’t make sense, and it was really a mix of emotions that were like, ‘Why wasn’t I enough? BOISE – Ashlee Birk’s life was turned upside down in 2011. It was then that her husband’s affair with another woman turned fatal. He was shot, leaving her betrayed and left alone with five young children.
“My husband was killed for having an affair, and three people’s poor choices put me at a crossroads to decide how my life was going to go,” Birk said.
Since then, Ashlee has made incredible progress. She has written a book about faith, hope and forgiveness called Moments We Stand – Silence Breaks.
She is remarried to a wonderful man. But even she admits her family is still on the road to healing.
Today she appeared in the Dr. Phil show on. She faced Kandi Hall, the woman who had this fatal affair with her husband.
Maggie O’Mara spoke to Ashlee about the show, what she was hoping for and what actually happened.
“Dr. Phil contacted me about three months ago,” Birk said. “They wanted to help spread the word about my story and my book and the path of forgiveness and healing that I’ve worked so hard to create.”

“Just an explosion of emotions,” Birk said.
Kandi Hall’s husband Rob Hall shot and killed Corrigan after finding him with Kandi.
“For a year and a half I was so angry and especially at Kandi and Emmett,” Birk said. “For me, whoever brought the gun wasn’t as bad as the two who ripped my marriage apart. Forgiveness was for myself because I’ll never hear from Emmett, I don’t know if I ever will from Rob and Kandi, but I have to be okay with that.”
Ashlee thought the Dr. Phil Show would be a way to share her message of hope and healing after betrayal and tragedy.
“They contacted me a few days earlier and said could you lift the no contact order for just that day,” she said.
This no contact order is against Kandi Hall.
“Maybe I misinterpreted that, but I really figured that maybe she’s at a point where she could actually have some empathy for you,” Birk said. “You could have this healing moment together.”
But Ashlee says that didn’t happen.
The woman and the other woman faced each other.
“No, it was more of a surprise,” Birk said. “I was thrown out there on stage and all of a sudden she was facing me and actually I don’t remember the things I said or did. But I do remember feeling a lot of feelings from the past that I didn’t have. I don’t want to feel.”
“Your marriage didn’t end because of me, stop pinning me for everything,” Kandi Hall said in the Dr. phil show
“I’m not pinning you down,” Birk replied.
“Oh you are!” said Hall.
“So I felt a little, I think the word hurt,” Birk said.

“It was almost like taking the wounds from the past and throwing in a little salt … as you know, you weren’t enough and you were an idiot,” Birk said.
