DJ Yella Net Worth: How Much Is DJ Yella Worth?

As of 2020, Yella reportedly has an estimated net worth of $2 million. He has amassed this sum through his leading roles in the entertainment industry. He made his fortune as a rapper, DJ, record producer and film producer. He was one of the prominent members of the electronic music band World Class Wreckin’ Cru. Yella and Dr. Dre were the founding members of the band.

DJ Yella NWA

Yella joined the hip hop group “N.W.A.” in 1987. It was an acronym for “Niggaz Wit Attitudes.” The group was originally formed by Arabian Prince, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and Eazy-E founded. Dre invited Yella to join the group. The band popularized a new genre of music called “gangsta rap”.

The band was very successful in the first days of its formation. In 1988, Yella worked on N.W.A’s debut studio album, Straight Outta Compton. He handled the production of the album and also worked on the drum programming of several tracks. This album was one of the most influential hip hop records of all time.

It also caused controversy, as several tracks’ lyrics bordered on the obscenity. Yella had a good relationship with Eazy-E. In 1988 he undertook production of Eazy-E’s debut solo album, Eazy-Duz-It. In the same year he worked with the hip hop group “J.J. Fad” to produce their first studio album “Supersonic”.

In 1991 ‘N.W.A’ released their second and final studio album ‘Niggaz4Life’. Yella was the producer of the album. He co-wrote the lyrics for several tracks on the album. Although it debuted at number two on the US Billboard chart, it was surrounded by controversy due to its infamous lyrics.

In 1991, the “N.W.A” collapsed due to longstanding disputes between its members. While the other band members accused Eazy-E of financial fraud, Yella stayed by his se. He produced several records for Ruthless Records, owned by Eazy-E.

DJ Yella Straight Outta Compton

Straight Outta Compton is a certified box office hit, and the surviving members of N.W.A. couldn’t be happier. Ice Cube and Dr. Dre, two of the remaining four members of N.W.A. and the only two credited with producing the film have nothing but praise for the biopic.

MC Ren and DJ Yella, on the other hand, were only consultants and had less creative input, so you might expect their reactions to be different. But while MC Ren is vocal about his objections to parts of the film, Yella feels Straight Outta Compton deserves nothing but positivity.

It’s a take that’s been used throughout N.W.A. his sincere attitude seems to have been. Re. MC Ren and Yella are both relegated to supporting roles in Straight Outta Compton, with the more famous faces Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and Eazy-E grab most of the spotlight and screen time.

Yella doesn’t have the same level of notoriety as his N.W.A. counterparts, dr. Dre and Ice Cube, but the producer, the adult film director, and Yella don’t seem to mind. In fact, Yella insists he’s exactly the same guy he was when N.W.A. formed first.

Top 10 Richest Rappers in the World and Their Net Worth (2022)

Top 10 Richest Rappers In The World And Their Net Worth (2022) Interesting

Nothing is more fun than mid-year when the new dates come out and we can update this list. It’s not often that the list of the 10 richest rappers in the world changes a lot.

Usually they are the same players and their net worth moves up or down a bit depending on their investments. No matter the outcome, we include all data that we can get from publicly available sources. It may not be entirely accurate, but it’s damn close.

What you will notice as you read and find inspirational as an aspiring rapper is this:

It’s entirely possible to become extremely rich as a rapper or hip-hop artist.

As you increase in popularity and income, you can break into Hollywood, start other businesses like clothing lines, and make all kinds of investments to drastically increase your wealth.

Comparing this list to the most-streamed artists of all time is also pretty revealing, as two rappers feature in both. I’ll let you guess which ones.

It’s a huge grind and often it’s not even about skill, it’s about connections. Many spits rhyme for decades and never broke, but those who do stand a great chance of joining the following list of the 10 richest rappers in the world…

#10 – Ice cubes

Net worth: $160 million

Change: +$60M & ↑2 – O’Shea Jackson has been in the game for as long as Dr. Dre and started out in the same group called N.W.A. After an illustrious 10-album solo career, he ventured into Hollywood films and television, starring in classic urban movies, comedies and even children’s films.

He continued his music career as a member of the successful Westside Connection. As an entrepreneur, Jackson owns a clothing line, Solo by Cube, and a 3-on-3 basketball league called Big3. He continues to amass music and film awards to this day.

Trivia Fact: His rap name comes from a threat his older brother gave him, in which O’Shea would be “thrown into a freezer and not pulled out until he was an ice cube”. His cousin is none other than Del the Funky Homosapien. He began writing rhymes at age 9 and sold his first song at 16 to later N.W.A. Group member Eazy-E.

#9 – Lil Wayne

Net worth: $170 million

Change: +$17M & ↓1 – Weezy did alright as a Cash Money rap artist, but things really took off when he split from Birdman (also on this list!) and started his own label, Young Money . A former member of the Hot Boys, he became Cash Money’s hottest act after Juvenile left the label.

He was also the go-to person for guest appearances, earning him tons of royalties. He’s the first man to surpass Elvis Presley with most Billboard Hot 100 songs, 109 total to date. He’s earned his place as one of the best-selling artists of all time and will continue to rise while he continues to hit superstars like Drake and Nicki Minaj brings out.

Fun fact: His real name is Dwayne, but he dropped the “D” in disappointment at his absent father. At age 12, Wayne survived a gunshot wound to the chest, which decades later he revealed was an act of self-harm. His favorite band is Nirvana. Among his many tattoos is some Jay Z lyrics on his leg.

#8 – Drake

Net worth: $180 million

Change: +$55M & ↑5 – Drake’s career really took off when Lil Wayne signed him to his own label Young Money in June 2009 and is now considered one of rap’s kings. He has won four Grammy Awards including the Grammy for Best Rap Album for “Take Care” at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards in 2012. He has also outsold several rap legends such as Jay-Z, Eminem and Tupac. It’s no surprise to see him at the top of our list of best-selling artists of all time.

Drake will certainly continue to climb the ranks of our list. The real question is whether it will be thanks to his musical talent or his business acumen. He owns his own record label (OVO Sound), his own fashion brand (October’s Very Own), has formed countless brand partnerships and even launched a whiskey called Virginia Black. He is also the global ambassador for his hometown NBA team, the Toronto Raptors.

Fun fact: Drake began his public life as an actor on the iconic Canadian teen TV show Degrassi thanks to the father of one of his classmates who was an acting agent. His character, Jimmy Brooks, is seen rapping in one of the show’s episodes.

#7 – Pharrell

Net worth: $200 million

Change: +$49M & ↑2 – Pharrell Williams broke through as part of the beat production duo The Neptunes and then took it even further as the lead singer of N*E*R*D. His production skills led to him also being the beatmaker for hip-hop and R&B artists for years.

That eventually earned him ten Grammys, and his songs in the film even earned him an Oscar. He even became a coach on the TV show The Voice. Today he runs a record label and multimedia creative collective called I am OTHER.

To top it off, he has partnered with countless international companies to create streetwear brands, sneakers, jewellery, sunglasses, furniture, sculpture, textiles and much more. He’s definitely brooding.

Fun fact: Esquire named Pharrell the best dressed man alive. He is an avid skateboarder with a half pipe at his house. He composed the entire soundtrack for the animated film Despicable Me. He is the 12th artist to rank #1 and #2 on the Billboard Top 100 simultaneously.

#6 – Master P

Net worth: $200 million

Change: -$50M & ↓2 – Percy Miller made an incredible amount of money while his record label, No Limit Records, owned the rap scene. He brought countless stars onto the market during this time, struck while the iron was hot, and released up to ten times as many albums as in previous years. In the late ’90s he managed to sign Snoop Dogg to a three-album deal.

Though he’s broken into television, movies, and even professional wrestling, he’s broken into travel, real estate, stocks, toys, sports, cars, and other industries. He managed all this without winning any of the major music awards. It is the king of diversified income.

Fun fact: Percy had a contract to play for both the Charlotte Hornets and Toronto Raptors during the 1999 preseason, but he didn’t finish. However, he played successfully in smaller leagues. He managed a WCW stable called No Limit Soldiers where his crew faced off against the West Texas Rednecks. He also appeared in season 2 of Dancing with the Stars.

#5 – Eminem

Net Worth: $230 million

Change: +$20M & ↑1 – Marshall Mathers is another Dr. Dre protégé who spawned his own record label, Shady Records, and launched his own superstars. He has won 15 Grammy Awards and is the first rapper to win the Academy Award for Best Original Song for his film 8 Mile, in which he starred.

Mathers is also an author. He would definitely be in a higher position on this list if he invested as much outside of music as other artists and hadn’t been sued countless times. He is one of the few on this list who also features in the list of the greatest rappers of all time.

Fun fact: Eminem was once attacked by a bully in elementary school and suffered a serious head injury. His family sued the school, but the judge dismissed the case, saying schools are immune from lawsuits. Marshall wrote about this experience in the song “Brain Damage,” and his bully later sued him for invading his privacy and portraying him in a negative light. The judge also dismissed this case and announced the verdict in rhyme. Eminem was also sued for defamation by his own mother.

#4 – dr dr

Net worth: $500 million

Change: -$300M & ↓2 – Andre Young makes a fortune from many revenue streams, from countless royalties by launching protégés like Snoop Dogg, Xzibit, Eminem and 50 Cent. His focus on creating other superstars has limited his personal time, resulting in only two of his own album releases. These efforts have also earned him one of the top 10 best producers in the game.

His early work with N.W.A., Death Row Records and then his own label, Aftermath Entertainment, resulted in enough income and notoriety to launch several other ventures in the film industry, philanthropy and entrepreneurship. His recent divorce (which reportedly cost him more than $100 million) is partly responsible for his decline on our list.

Trivia Fact: Dr. Dre built the Beats By Dre company, by far the world’s best headphones in terms of sales and marketing, so much so that Apple bought the company in 2014 for a total of $3 billion and brought Dre to this list, almost back to top…

#3 – Diddy

Net worth: $900 million
