Taylor Harris of Women’s Wear Daily questioned the implications of Ratajkowski’s feminism.[242] The Independent’s Gill questioned Ratajkowski’s feminism, saying that her professional activities “continue to advocate industries that treat us like cuts of meat”.[231] Heather Saul of The Independent wrote in support of Ratajkowski in an article subtitled “Ratajkowski Emerges as a Major Feminist Voice in Debate on Female Censorship and Sexuality.”[243] New Yorker Allie Jones called Ratajkowski “the best feminist celebrity.”[244]

Ratajkowski was one of the victims of the 2014 nude photo leak, which saw multiple nude photos of her leaked online.[246][247]

In 2014, artist Richard Prince appropriated one of Ratajkowski’s Instagram posts without her consent and included the resulting painting in an exhibition at the Gagosian Gallery in New York. Seven years later, Ratajkowski took a photo of herself standing in front of the Prince painting and used it to create a non-fungible token (NFT). The NFT was auctioned at Christie’s for $175,000. “I hope to symbolically set a precedent for women and property online, one that allows women to have enduring authority over their image and receive legitimate compensation for its use and dissemination,” Ratajkowski wrote on Twitter.[248 ]

According to a November 26, 2016 New York Post report, 71 photographs taken by Jonathan Leder in May 2012 were printed in a publication by Imperial Publishing and exhibited in a New York art gallery in February 2017.[249] On November 30, 2016, Ratajkowski tweeted that she was featured in the photo book release without her consent. New York notes that Ratajkowski claimed the images were intended for use in an art magazine,[28] while USA Today notes that it hesitated to protest because it did not want to make leather public.[29] She detailed the circumstances of the 2012 photoshoot in an essay titled Buying Myself Back: When Does a Model Owned Her Own Image? for The Cut in September 2020, reiterating that she never gave her permission to use the photos about her originally published in Darius Magazine and that Leder sexually assaulted her after the photo shoot.
