Columbia man accused of secret home bathroom videos

A Columbia man was charged Friday with secretly recording several people in the bathroom of his home earlier this year.
The Columbia Police Department issued a news release saying that Monroe County Attorney Lucas Liefer has issued an arrest warrant for Andrew W. Thompson, 29, of Columbia. The warrant was for unauthorized videotaping, which is a Class 4 felony.
Thompson’s bond was priced at $50,000. He was taken into custody and taken to the Monroe County Jail.
Police said these charges stem from an investigation launched last Wednesday after a concerned citizen contacted the Columbia Police Department.
“As a result of Thompson’s position as a teacher at Columbia Unit School, District #4, (police) immediately notified District #4 and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.”
In addition to being a teacher, Thompson is a district coach and also serves as a youth minister for a local church.
Court information alleges that on May 17, Thompson “knowingly and unlawfully without the consent of (four victims who can only be identified by initials) knowingly took a picture of them while they were in the bathroom of his apartment.”

COLUMBIA, Illinois — A Columbia man who is a teacher was in custody Friday on suspicion of making unauthorized videotaping at his home, Columbia Police Department said.
Andrew W. Thompson, 29, was being held in the Monroe County Jail on $50,000 bail after county attorney Lucas Liefers issued an arrest warrant for illegal videotaping, police said.
No juveniles were involved and the recordings were believed to have taken place at Thompson’s home in April, police said, adding that they do not believe it was carried out on school grounds.
He is a teacher at Columbia Unit School District No. 4, who along with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services have been notified of the arrest and charges, police said.
The investigation was initiated by a “concerned citizen” and is ongoing, police said.
It was not known if Thompson had an attorney.
