Francena McCorory High School
McCorory attended Bethel High School in Hampton, Virginia, where she grew up, where she demonstrated her ability for the 400 meters. A standout presentation was at the 2005 Virginia Group AAA Eastern Region meet, where McCorory accepted her group’s apparatus up to 80 yards behind the race’s pioneers, but traveled past six different groups to triumph. McCorory attended Bethel High School in her hometown of Hampton, Virginia, where she demonstrated her talent for the 400 meters.[2] A notable feat came at the 2005 Virginia Group AAA Eastern Region meet, where McCorory took her team’s baton up to 80 yards behind the race leaders but rode past six other teams to victory. She later set the National High School indoor record of 51.93 on her only attempt at the distance, a record previously held by future world champion Sanya Richards.
Although McCorory was recruited by larger universities, she attended school at her hometown of Hampton University. She won the 2009 NCAA Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships[5] and finished third at the NCAA Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships later that year.[6] In 2010 she went to Fayetteville, Arkansas to defend her championship.
