We were lucky enough to get in touch with Frankie Fiction and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Frankie, is there something that you think is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success is believing in yourself. Dream big and don’t let anyone belittle your dreams or tell you otherwise. Surround yourself with people who encourage and support your dreams and ambitions.

Burlesque is a performance art that incorporates the vintage art of striptease. It is a form of empowerment for all body types, races and genders. It’s storytelling in the form of a striptease.
What sets me apart is that even in a full house, I’ve made it my mission to connect with every viewer in the room and make everyone feel like my performance is just for them.
I made it to where I am today by working really hard and not giving up. I studied every single aspect of my work and constantly looked for ways to improve. It wasn’t easy, I dedicated everything I had and spent every free minute honing my craft. I did not see any challenges I encountered as negative but as positive and saw an opportunity to improve myself.
Growing up as a Chinese American, it was a learned habit for me to blend in, be humble, keep my head down, and work hard. I was always the quiet little Asian girl I wouldn’t remember. I grew up thinking that I didn’t have a voice and that my thoughts didn’t matter enough. When I discovered burlesque, I realized I could have a voice in the form of dance. It gave me a space to be seen and heard. Burlesque made me realize that I’m NOT the stereotypical subdued Asian with her head down, but rather the strong, fierce dragon. When I’m on stage, I feel the fire of my Asian ancestors in my veins. I am a phoenix taking the torch. I care deeply about their stories and when I go on stage I not only release my own truths but rather the experiences of the stories of everyone I have captured.

My absolute favorite place in LA is the Garment District. I can spend days obsessing over all the different textiles and rhinestones for costumes!

This shoutout is dedicated to my dear friend, the late Coby Yee. Coby began dancing burlesque in the 1940s. She was a trailblazer, she paved the way for me and so many other Asian-American burlesque artists to this day. She is a legend on both the local and national burlesque scene. She followed her dreams and did everything with timeless style, grace and a kind heart. Coby passed away just last year, it is important to me to preserve the legacy of the Chinese-American artists who have come before me and inspired my burlesque endeavors and the future of the burlesque art form.
