When Love and Marriage: Huntsville returns for a fourth season in March, we’re expecting a healthy dose of relationship drama from the Alabama-based cast — so we’re tuning in to Scott, who wed on camera in the show’s first season, marks a new one Milestone in their then seven-year relationship. Since theGrio’s Black History Month celebration was also a celebration of black love, the Scotts, who have now been together a full decade, graciously sat down with us for a candid conversation about love, marriage and bonding.
For her part, Kimmi admits the marriage is going differently than she expected. “I really convinced myself it was going to be very easy. And it wasn’t very easy,” she shared. “There are some tough days where you have to compromise and meet in the middle and you stay committed because you’re committed, you know, and it’s not because you’re just so happy … it’s because that you’ committed again. And that was a turning point for me. That was some learning for me because I figured I was getting married to have fun.”
While marriage is Kimmi’s first, Maurice was previously married, which admittedly left him a little jaded when it came to the potential challenges of a bond. In Kimmi he found a partner who not only challenged him, but expanded his idea of what commitment could look like.
“You know, she was stuck in her ways on certain things, and I was kind of stuck in my ways,” he said. “And I think it’s given her a degree of success and taught me to appreciate her side as well. So I think growth is committed over [any] problems from my point of view.”
