Johannesburg – In an adorable video shared on Sony Music’s Instagram page, Kwesta and his beautiful wife Yolanda Mvelase recalled their meeting and their first impressions of each other.
According to the clip, it wasn’t love at first sight for the couple, who recently tied the knot.
Yolanda explained, “My girlfriend called me and said, ‘Can you please do my guy a favor? not my type.”
The pair laughed at Yolanda’s comment, with Kwesta adding that while he didn’t know Yolanda, he liked her immediately.
“I annoyed her, and I liked to annoy her. I liked the fact that she was sort of annoyed, like she was a little pissed off. She didn’t laugh at the stupid jokes, which is pretty stupid until I made her laugh.”

Senzo Brikka Vilakazi (born August 11, 1988), known professionally as Kwesta, is a South African rapper and songwriter.[3] Born in Katlehong, Gauteng, a township also known as “K1”.[4] In 2003, at the age of 15, he and his friends formed the rap group Ghetto Fellaz, which was renamed The Juvenylz that same year. He is currently signed to his own independent media company called RapLyf Records along with co-founder Kid X.[5]
He released his debut studio album Special ReKwest (2010) and second album DaKAR (2013), which reached #3 on the South African iTunes Hip Hop/Rap chart.[6]
Kwesta’s third studio album, DaKAR II (2016), [7] spawned with singles includes; “Ngud”, “Nomayini”, “Day Ones”, “Ngiyazifela Ngawe”, “Mayibabo” and “Mmino”. The album was certified 7× platinum by the Recording Industry of South Africa (RISA). Selling 210,000 copies in South Africa, DaKAR II became the best-selling hip-hop album of all time.[10][11]
His fifth studio album g.o.d Guluva (2021), which debuted at number 3 in South Africa.
His most prestigious awards include 6 South African Music Awards, 4 South African Hip Hop Awards, 1 MTV Africa Music Award and 1 Metro FM Award.
Life and career[edit]
Kwesta attended Phumlani Secondary School in Katlehong for three years and later Alafang Secondary School.
During his school years he developed an interest in poetry and received positive feedback and encouragement from fellow students and teachers.
In 2003, Kwesta became part of the group The Ghetto Fellas, later known as The Juvenylz. The group broke up after two years.
After the group disbanded, Kwesta reached an agreement with Africa’s Most Southern Record Company for the use of their studios. During this time, Kwesta participated in competitions and events to give visibility to its brand. He entered YFM’s Rap Activity Jam MC of the Month competition.[13] He led ETV’s Shiz Niz Freestyle Kings special. He has also performed on The Rand Show, Miss Confidence Show and The Durban Beach Festival.
The rapper dropped out of high school at age 16.[15] Afterward, he persuaded his mother to pay him the cab fare needed to get to Buttabing Entertainment’s offices. The meeting resulted in his being signed to the record label’s roster, marking the start of his signed career.

In 2007, Kwesta received a judge’s appearance on the Sprite Hip Hoop Tour and a feature on The Ventilation Street Tape. He was also part of the Nokia Defend Your Street Campaign, collaborating with other artists to create the theme song.[17]
In the same year Kwesta released his first single Sharp Fede. He later released a mixtape in collaboration with DJ C-Live.
In 2010, Kwesta was among a select few chosen to be a Brand SA Ambassador. He performed during the national road shows held ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.[17] Kwesta worked on the Everywhere You Go anthem for MTN alongside Kelly Rowland, Jozi and 2Face among other artists. He also performed during the closing ceremony of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.[19]
2010–2012: Special Rekwest [ edit ]
In September 2010, Kwesta released her first studio album entitled Special Rekwest.[20] The album contained hit singles such as Babhemi, Flash It, Stomp and Pump It.
Flava landed a dubbing deal with DStv and was featured in Loeries TV’s 2011 advertising campaign.
Pump It landed a synch deal with DStv and Redds.
Stomp was one of the soundtracks for Death Race 3, an American action film.

In 2016, Kwesta released his third studio album entitled DaKAR II. On January 18, 2016, Ngud’ was released with Cassper Nyovest.[23]
At the annual MTV Africa Music Awards, the single “Ngud'” received a nomination for Song of the Year. At the beginning of October 2017 his single “Spirit” with the American rapper Wale was released. The song was certified platinum by the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA).

2021–present: good guluva [ edit ]
In March 2021, his single “Fire In The Ghetto” was released with Troublle as the album’s lead single. Pre-orders were made available in early April 2021.
