After graduating from high school, Zumbo traveled to Sydney to begin his pastry chef training in 1997.[3] He has worked under renowned culinary icons in Australia and France, including Ramon Morato and Pierre Hermé.[3]

His fifth appearance, in 2010, challenged contestants to his “Tower of Terror” with raspberry beetroot macaron and black olives to recreate.[11][12]. ] Within three days of the episode airing, he had sold 5,000 macarons at his Balmain store, four times the normal price.[11] Featured as a challenge dish in the 2010 Masterchef season, Zumbo’s Vanilla V8 Cake features layers of vanilla icing, creme chantilly, water gel, macaron, brulee, chiffon, syrup, ganache, almond crunch, and almond dacquoise.[ 13] The cake was originally created to honor Margaret Fulton’s 85th birthday and was named for its eight vanilla textures.[14] In June 2016, the same layer cake was listed as number 8 in Good Food’s Top 10 Iconic Desserts 2016 in Sydney.

In August 2016, Zumbo co-hosted the Seven Network cooking series Zumbo’s Just Desserts with Rachel Khoo and Gigi Falanga.[4][16][17]

Take a Tour of Adriano Zumbo’s Hometown Coonamble

Why master pastry chef Adriano Zumbo is so happy to return to his hometown of Coonamble. Like Angie Kelly said.

What are your fondest memories of Coonamble?

The human. If you live in a small town, you know everyone and you can walk the streets and say hello all day. Exercising is a great reminder because there isn’t much else to do. I also hang out at my parents’ supermarket on the corner of Castlereagh Street and Aberford Street, working, talking to customers and eating food straight off the shelf!

Describe how you grew up there.

I found it a happy place. People have always been willing to put in an effort, whether it be in sports or to help someone in need. I’ve ridden my bike around town and it always felt safe. I remember being at friends’ houses and spending a lot of time playing cricket. I could also be found on the Castlereagh River running around, playing hide and seek and digging for water as it was dry most of the year.

what brought you away

I moved to Sydney when I was 15 to start my education. In 10th grade I got a working leave from Coonamble High School and moved in with my older sister in Coogee. But I never went to school again. I was supposed to take over the family business, so it was a big deal.

how often do you go back

I visit family and friends once a year. My parents are still there but are in the process of moving closer to the coast having been in Coonamble since the 1960’s. My sister was there until last year but has now moved. I still have a lot of friends there – it will always be a part of me.

Much has changed?

Yes. It was busier and livelier when I was there. It felt like there was more prosperity – farmers were happier back then. Over the years, the city has lost many people as farmers struggle with the drought and young people move away to look for work.

What is your favorite thing to do there now?

I like to relax and meet up with schoolmates. Sydney is very busy and you always have something to do or places to be but when I return to Coonamble I sit down and there is nothing to do. It’s good! i feel at home

Tell something about Coonamble that you think would surprise outsiders.

The city is home to the southern hemisphere’s largest rodeo, held over the long weekend in June. It’s the highlight of the year and a big deal for the city – thousands flock to the exhibition grounds to see it. At the end there is a ball to which the whole town goes; it can be pretty wild!

What three things should visitors do?

The best is the Bucking Bull Hotel. It’s a bit hipper than the traditional pubs in town and has modern food and DJs. A good day trip would be Warrumbungle National Park, about an hour away. StarFest takes place on the first weekend in October; You can talk to astronomers and browse their telescope collection.
