Known for his excellent right-handed pitching, he has played professional baseball in Major League Baseball for nearly 13 years.

Max Scherzer also played for the Washington Nationals in the World Series, and he and his team won the championship.

Since becoming an eight-time MLB All-Star, Max has established himself as one of the most recognized and respected baseball players in the United States.

Is Max Scherzer Jewish?

Max Scherzer is not a convinced follower of Judaism. Because of his Jewish-sounding name, he was mistaken for a Jew. While the name Max is popular worldwide, not just among Jews, his full first name is Maxwell.

Although the Scherzer family name is relatively common among Jews, it is said to have descended from the German name “Jester”. In summary, Max may appear to be a Jewish professional, but he does not practice Judaism.

Mad Max is another nickname for him. In 2008, the American MLB player made his debut in the league. He is a pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers in Major League Baseball. The MLB player was born with heterochromic iridium, which caused his irises to be different colors.

Yes, Max Scherzer Has 2 Different Colored Eyes in Case You Were Wondering

The Star Ledger USA TODAY Sports

Max Scherzer had an incredible number of wins in 2013, will go into the postseason under Cy Young’s chatter and will take the ball in Game 1 of the ALDS in place of Justin Verlander.

But you probably want to see those eyes again.

The MLB playoffs offer some fans who sat 162 games before diving back into baseball a moment to re-introduce themselves to familiar and not-so-familiar characters.

There will be those who wonder who this cheeky Yasiel Puig kid is and others who want to know why this babe Ruthian Miguel Cabrera rarely gets enough national media attention.

On the usual periphery of things barely related to actual baseball, Scherzer and his unique eyes have to be at the top.

The 29-year-old ace was born with Heterochromia Iridium, which is a fancy way of saying each of his eyes is a different color than the other.

When you think about it, it’s a pretty wonderful thing to have.

You can tell people you have an illness shared by Dan Aykroyd, Mila Kunis and Simon Pegg. Plus, you can wear some of the cutest champagne glasses in the sport.

In 2012, Scherzer released a special heterochromic goggle that NESN reported was given to him by his girlfriend Erica May when the Tigers won the American League pennant.

That year, Scherzer wore the goggles again as the team won the division, via this tweet from Baseball Prospectus’ Paul Sporer.

So when you Tigers fans see her again, chances are very good that something amazing has just happened.

Considering the season Scherzer is in, that would fit. The right-hander won 21 games en route to a year that many believe will end with him receiving the Cy Young Award.

Of course, the usual debate ensues about his flashy running assistance — his 5.59 per game was good for third place among all qualified MLB pitchers.

His rates of 10.88 K/9 (#2) and 0.97 WHIP (#3) were pretty good too.

Regardless of whether he wins the award or not, he will no doubt be a big part of the Tigers’ postseason success. Thanks to a great season and a nod from Jim Leyland, he’ll get the ball to start the Detroit playoffs in Friday’s Game 1 against the Oakland A’s.

At this point, we expect many of you will be wondering, so what’s going on with those eyes?

Mets’ Max Scherzer Pulls Himself From Start With Left Side Discomfort

NEW YORK — The Mets rode high against the Cardinals in the bottom of the fifth after a four-run inning — then the air was sucked out of Citi Field.

Award-winning arm Max Scherzer left his start Wednesday night with complaints down his left flank in the top of sixth place. The 37-year-old will undergo imaging on Thursday morning, the Mets said.

Of even more concern about the situation, Scherzer pulled out of the game after throwing a slider on his 87th and final pitch of the night.

Scherzer immediately made a repetitive throat-slitting motion toward the dugout to indicate he was done before departing with a trainer.

This is quite concerning given Scherzer’s reputation for struggling through discomfort. At the beginning of the year, Scherzer had a bad Achilles tendon on his first appearance of the season.

According to Scherzer, he’s never dealt with such an injury in the past, but he doesn’t think it’s a huge burden. The right-hander had a tight left side throughout his start, then felt a “zing” in the sixth inning that told him he couldn’t go any further.

“I felt a hiss in my side and just knew I was done,” Scherzer said after the game. “I’ve never had an injury on my left side, so when I felt it I was like, ‘There’s no way you can throw another pitch, so just get out.’

Although Scherzer admitted his side weren’t feeling well after the game, he hoped he caught the disease early enough to prevent a serious injury.

“I don’t think that’s a big burden,” said Scherzer. “I was kind of tense, then suddenly it went. I don’t feel like I really tore it up. It just kind of got worse, so hopefully I got out of there fast enough to prevent a major injury here at an angle. These things can be uncomfortable. Hopefully I avoided a serious injury.”

Regarding the possibility of Scherzer making his next start, the three-time Cy Young Award winner said it’s far too early to make that decision.

“No idea at the moment,” he said. “I have to wake up tomorrow and get into an MRI scanner to see exactly what we got here.”

“I’ve gotten different body parts in games and you think you can go out there and it’ll be fine – and it’s not. All you know is you can’t throw another pitch.”

Scherzer pulled out from the start last season with a groin injury, he recalled doing the same in the past with a neck problem.

The Mets are hoping Scherzer’s imaging comes back clean as they can ill afford to lose their ace for a period of time. The Mets have missed Jacob deGrom (right shoulder blade stress reaction) all season and recently lost Tylor Megill to the 15-day I.L. with biceps tendinitis.

New York defeated the Cardinals 11-4 on Wednesday and improved to 25-14 this season. They will now await Scherzer’s imaging results tomorrow to determine the severity of the right-hander’s injury.
