Keane attended Bishop Dubois High School and Fordham University where he served in the Pershing Rifles and earned a B.S. Graduated in Accounting in 1966. He then attended Western Kentucky University and graduated with an M.A. in Philosophy. He later graduated from the Command and General Staff College and the Army War College.
Military career[edit]
Keane served in the Vietnam War as a Ranger paratrooper and led the fight as a platoon commander and company commander. He received the Combat Infantry Badge and the Master Parachutist Badge.[5] He later served in US engagements in Somalia, Haiti, Bosnia and Kosovo.
