Justice for Savannah Gold

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The long road to justice has finally come to an end for the family of 21-year-old Savannah Gold.

Rodarte and Gold worked together at Bonefish Grill in Mandarin and have previously been together.

Before Rodarte’s sentencing, Gold’s family read statements aloud to victims in the courtroom.

“Savannah could have changed countless lives. That was taken from us by Lee Rodarte on August 2, 2017,” said Savannah’s father, Dan Gold.

“Savannah’s best friend had her first baby a few days ago. While part of me was incredibly happy for her, there was also a great deal of sadness. Savannah will never have a baby,” said Savannah’s mother, Sharon Gold.

“Since then I’ve been living in an emotional hole and I’m afraid to open up to anyone. Even now, it’s hard for me to put into words what she really meant to me,” said Savannah’s brother, Chris Gold.

In February, Lee Rodarte agreed to plead guilty to second-degree murder.

Prosecutors and defense agreed to a negotiated 40-year sentence with time served.

4th Circuit Judge Jeb Branham agreed to uphold the negotiated verdict.

Investigators say Rodarte changed his story early on, before finally confessing and leading police to her body.

Police say Gold left home, worked in Mandarin at the Bonefish Grill but never showed up.

JSO found surveillance video of Gold parking her car and getting into Rodarte’s car.

Police said there was a fight in the car before Rodarte drove off with gold inside.

Justice has arrived for Gold’s family today.

“To our family, extended family and community, our hearts have begun to heal because of your love and support,” Dan Gold said after the sentencing hearing. “We love Savannah, and we never realized how many of you did.”

Lee Rodarte’s full confession of the murder of Savannah Gold is now on Youtube. As someone who’s been following this case for years, I am thrilled. TrueCrime

Lee Rodarte (28 years old) murdered his colleague Savannah Gold (21 years old) in a fit of rage in the back seat of his car in 2017 and was sentenced to 40 years in prison. He claimed self-defense, but being a grown male and nearly 6ft tall, that defense didn’t hold up as Savannah was only about 5ft tall and quite small, and also didn’t have a weapon.

The motive for the murder is speculated to be that he didn’t want Savannah to tell other people they saw each other because it would jeopardize his job as manager at the Bone Fish Grill in Jacksonville, Florida.

It’s actually been on youtube for a month but I just found it today and I’m so happy. I have been following the case for over 3 years and always hoped they would release the full interrogation.

Those of you who have been following this case have no doubt seen this video which is 1.5 hours long and cuts off just before Lee confesses and explains what happened after his car left the parking lot.

Well, now a 5 hour unedited video of the interrogation has made it onto YouTube, filling in the blanks and detailing everything that happened and how the murder unfolded.

The 5 hour video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UudPVoO0kjU

His confession begins at 2:43:00. Here is the link with that timestamp: https://youtu.be/UudPVoO0kjU?t=9780

The confession itself only lasts about 15 minutes and for the rest of the video, Lee is left alone in the room with his own thoughts. What’s interesting about this part is that we watch a man (28 years old at the time) try to come to terms with the fact that his life is completely over, which I think is quite fascinating. At the time of the murder he had a good job, a car, a girlfriend, an active social life; things seemed to be going well for him. There are also mid-interrogation portions that were removed from the original 1.5 hour video and are now included. This is a 5 hour uncut video from start to finish of the whole thing.

Just thought I would share.

Lee Rodarte Jr., Florida Man, Sentenced For Killing Savannah Gold

After Savannah Gold’s murder in 2017, Lee Rodarte Jr. sent messages to her family pretending to be them and announcing that she was leaving town for a while.

A Florida man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for the 2017 murder of missing wife Savannah Gold.

Lee Rodarte Jr., 31, was sentenced to his prison term on Thursday, nearly three years after he was charged with killing Gold, who he worked with at a Bonefish Grill in Mandarin, reports Action News Jax. Rodarte reached a settlement with prosecutors in February and pleaded guilty to second-degree murder; in exchange, prosecutors proposed a 40-year sentence with time served, and the judge agreed.

Rodarte was in a relationship with Gold while he worked as a manager at the restaurant, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said in a previous press release. Surveillance footage showed Gold showing up for work around 5:30 p.m. on August 2, 2017, but after parking her car, she did not go to the restaurant; She climbed into the passenger seat of Rodarte’s parked car instead, authorities said. Less than 15 minutes later, what appeared to be a brief fight broke out inside the vehicle, and Gold was never seen exiting the car. Instead, Rodarte got out and walked to Gold’s car, opening the driver’s door and reaching inside before walking back to his car and driving away.

When police found Gold’s car, one of the tires had been slashed; Her purse and other belongings were found in the unlocked car, reports News 4 Jax. Her family then began receiving text messages from her phone, in which Gold appeared to announce that she had met someone and was running off with that person. However, due to the spelling and the way the messages were worded, her family and friends didn’t believe Gold was the person behind the lyrics, according to the outlet.

A message Gold’s brother received read, “Hey, I’m stopping going with my boyfriend, I can’t do this anymore — I’m fine, I just want to get away,” reports the Florida Times-Union.

During the search for gold, Rodarte joined her friends and family in handing out flyers for missing people and even told them he was concerned, her family told News 4 Jax.

Gold was missing for three days before Rodarte confessed, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said. He admitted killing Gold and then dumping her body in a local lake; According to authorities, members of the JSO diving team had to be called to recover her remains.

When Gold’s body was found, officers could not determine a cause of death, but it was clear that she had been cremated and that her death had been a “violent homicide,” according to a News 4 Jax report. During the trial, Rodarte claimed he was trying to defend himself against Gold when he grabbed her neck and heard a “pop,” but prosecutors argued against that claim.

Following Thursday’s sentencing, Gold’s family thanked the community for their support, reports Action News Jax.

“To our family, extended family and community, our hearts have begun to heal because of your love and support,” said her father, Dan Gold. “We love Savannah, and we never realized how many of you did.”
