Marlene Rittmanic – Bradley Il Police Shooting Victim

Marlene Rittmanic, 49, was a Bradley Police sergeant who killed 25-year-old Darius Sullivan and 26-year-old Xandria Harris.

The perpetrators face multiple crimes over last week’s hotel shooting that left one dead and another seriously injured. Kankakee County District Attorney Jim Rowe is attempting to indict her for murder while urging federal prosecutors to pursue the death penalty.

The shooting took place around 9:56 p.m. on December 29, 2021. Officers Tyler Bailey and Rittmanic were in the Comfort Inn parking lot at Block 1500 of North State Highway 50 in response to a noise complaint about dogs barking in a parked car.

When officers discovered the car owner’s entity as Harris, they asked a hotel employee some questions. The staff directed her to room 308, which Sullivan had booked.

The officers knocked on the door several times. After a while, Harris tries to squeeze through the door to avo Sullivan’s capture. While they were urging them to end the door block, Sullivan, who was wanted on pending warrants for failing a court date and was a former Bradley officer fugitive, came by with a drum-clip 9mm pistol.

During the fight, the wanted man shot Bailey and the fleeing Rittmanic in the head. He allegedly chased the sergeant down the hall and pinned her against a door, but was unable to fire as he was busy disarming the officer.

Sullivan then asked Harris to cock the gun, which resulted in her joining the fight and as a result, they successfully disarmed the officer. Already fired once, he fired two more bullets from Rittmancic’s gun despite pleading for life, hitting her neck area. After the shooting, he fled the scene in a vehicle while Harris ran away with her belongings and two children.

The two injured were taken to hospital, where the sergeant later died. The other is fighting for his life.

Around 9 a.m., US Marshals’ Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force arrested Sullivan after he left a home in north Manchester. She surrendered to the Bradley Police Department, also accompanied by her attorney, seven hours after Harris’ partner was arrested.
