Evan Mehdi Fournier (French pronunciation: [fuʁnie]; born October 29, 1992)[1] is a French professional basketball player for the New York Knicks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). From 2007 to 2009 he played junior basketball at the French INSEP academy.[2]
Early life[edit]
Fournier was born on October 29, 1992 in Saint-Maurice, a small suburb of Paris. He is of Algerian descent from his mother while his father is French.[3] He became interested in basketball in 2002 thanks to the 2001–02 Sacramento Kings team. Fournier wears the number 10 on his jersey in honor of then-King of Sacramento Mike Bibby.[4]

France (2009–2012) [ edit ]
In September 2009, Fournier signed a one-year deal with LNB Pro B’s JSF Nanterre. In June 2010, he signed a two-year deal with LNB Pro A’s Poitiers Basket 86. [5]
Denver Nuggets (2012–2014) [ edit ]
On June 28, 2012, Fournier was selected with the 20th overall pick by the Denver Nuggets in the 2012 NBA draft. On July 11, 2012, he signed his rookie scale contract with the Nuggets. He then joined the Nuggets for the 2012 NBA Summer League. In the Nuggets’ first 73 games of the 2012-13 season, Fournier had appeared in just 29 of them, registering 10 points or more just once. He appeared in nine straight games to complete the regular season, including starting the last three. During that postseason stretch, he averaged 12.3 points and had 17 points or more in four games, including a season-best 24 points on April 14, 2013.
In July 2013, Fournier rejoined the Nuggets for the 2013 NBA Summer League. On October 30, 2013, the Nuggets exercised their third-year team option on Fournier’s rookie benchmark contract, extending the contract through the 2014–15 season. On February 23, 2014, Fournier scored a then-career-high 27 points against the Sacramento Kings.

On June 26, 2014, Fournier was traded to the Orlando Magic along with the drafting rights to Devyn Marble in exchange for Arron Afflalo. On October 26, 2013, the Magic exercised their fourth-year team option on Fournier’s rookie scale contract, extending the contract through the 2015–16 season. On November 12, 2014, Fournier scored a then-career-high 28 points in 8-of-14 shooting in a 97-95 win over the New York Knicks.
On November 3, 2015, Fournier set a new career high with 30 points in a 103-94 win over the New Orleans Pelicans. On March 15, 2016, Fournier set his career high with a 30-point operation against the Denver Nuggets. In 2015–16, Fournier had a career year in which he averaged personal bests in scoring (15.4 ppg), rebound (2.8 rpg), assists (2.7 apg), steals (1.2 spm) and minutes (32.5 mpg). On March 25, 2021, Fournier was traded to the Boston Celtics in exchange for Jeff Teague and two future second-round draft picks. Fournier had played and started in 26 games and was averaging 19.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.0 steals while averaging 38.8 percent from three-point range with Magic for the season lap. On March 29, Fournier made his debut for the Celtics against the New Orleans Pelicans but went scoreless in 33 minutes. On April 2, Fournier scored 23 points and hit a career-high seven 3-pointers in a 118–102 win over the Houston Rockets. Fournier put up 20 points from his 23-point performance in the fourth quarter and became the second Celtics player to score 20 points on 100 percent shooting in a quarter since Paul Pierce. On August 17, 2021, the New York Knicks acquired Fournier in a sign-and-trade deal with the Celtics. On October 20, Fournier made his Knicks debut, tying a career-high 32 points in a 138–134 overtime doubles win over his former team, the Boston Celtics. On January 6, 2022, Fournier surpassed that career high, scoring 41 points behind ten threes and eight rebounds in a 108–105 win over the Celtics. On March 23, in a 121-106 win over the Charlotte Hornets, he broke the Knicks’ record for most 3-pointers scored in a season and surpassed the record set by John Starks in 1995 (217).

Two-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic once described his brothers Strahinja and Nemanja: “They look like serial killers, but when you meet them, they’re really nice people.” I don’t know them. What little I know certainly indicates that they are now the de facto security team for the NBA’s biggest contract of all time. Charlatans will kick up a $264m contract, but not with the Jokic brothers staring at them.

PJ Tucker turns 40 when his guaranteed three-year, $11.6 million contract with the Philadelphia 76ers ends.
The San Antonio Spurs doubled newly acquired Danilo Gallinari’s guaranteed salary to $10.4 million and bought out the contract just for him to sign with the rival Boston Celtics for a reported $13 million.
Tucker, Gallinari, Nicolas Batum, JaVale McGee and Thaddeus Young, all aged 34-37 next season, received multi-year deals totaling $91.6 million at the start of free agency without hesitation.
That doesn’t even include 35-year-old Jeff Green, who settled on $4.5 million, or Kevin Durant, the soon-to-be 34-year-old, who requested a trade in the hours leading up to the free hand and will see a monstrous return .

Flying under the radar
Two silent moves I think deserve special recognition: Kyle Anderson to Minnesota and Bruce Brown to Denver.
Both signed for a mid-level exception.
Anderson played 21.5 minutes off the bench for the Memphis Grizzlies last season and averaged an 8-5-3 in 45/33/64 shooting splits as a walker, but he meant far more to them as a stabilizing veteran. Coming from the San Antonio Spurs with playoff experience, he helped Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins preach the gospel of Gregg Popovich in Memphis. The team has exceeded expectations every season and he left them on the path to join a Timberwolves team in dire need of leadership for their young stars.
Brown played 24.6 minutes per game for the Brooklyn Nets last season, both as a starter and reserve, and as a guard and forward. He was the third-best player in Brooklyn’s last two playoff appearances in a roster full of former All-Stars. They don’t break the veteran bias without putting in the work. He and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope give Jokic a pair of dependable 3-and-D types who are used to complementing stars.
Lu there
There’s a solid 3-and-D player there. He scored 30 points in a Game 7 two years ago and nearly eliminated James Harden’s Houston Rockets in a first-round playoff series. He averaged 17 points per game for below-average shooting efficiency for an Oklahoma City Thunder team that had 24 wins and needed someone to make shots.
Is he worth $87.5 million in the next five years? Da’s average annual salary of $17.5 million makes him the fifth-highest paid free agent in the first 24 hours, behind only Bradley Beal, Zach LaVine, Jalen Brunson and Anfernee Simons. Norman Powell was signed to a five-year, $90 million contract by the Portland Trail Blazers last year, and they cut his salary before the end of the season. Powell also had an extensive track record as a goalscorer, winning a title by playing 23 minutes a night in a conference finals for the Toronto Raptors.
It feels like $87.5 million is a stretch for there, but OKC didn’t manage to hit the salary floor last season and in the process spread an extra $22 million across the roster, so someone might as well take the whole bag right now.
Donovan Mitchell
It’s no secret that Mitchell and Utah Jazz teammate Rudy Gobert have been at odds over the past few seasons, resulting in a playoff series win over the past four seasons despite playing 65% of their regular-season games combined won. It seemed inevitable that the franchise would choose between Mitchell and Gobert this summer, and they chose Mitchell on Friday, trading Gobert for five first-round picks and some useful roleplayers.
Jazz manager Danny Ainge could turn around and trade Mitchell as well, but he’s now armed with six first-round picks, all acquired in the first 24 hours of free agency, to pursue talent centered around his star.
The more you look at trading in Utah, the better off Jazz is. Despite being one of the best defensive players of his generation, Gobert is still a center who will be paid $46.7 million in 2025-26 at the age of 33 and at times played small-ball during the crucial period of the playoff games. was exposed to offenses. They traded him for Jarred Vanderbilt, Patrick Beverley and Malik Beasley — three of the top seven players from one of the NBA’s best second-half teams last season — and again five first-round picks (three unprotected).
LOSER
Kyrie Irving
The seven-time All-Star was granted permission by the Nets to pursue sign-and-trade deals across the league, found nothing but a paltry offer from the Los Angeles Lakers, and returned to his $36.5 player option, only for Kevin Durant – the close friend whom Irving convinced to join him in Brooklyn – to solicit a trade.
That must be an ego blow, even for Irving, who has spent the last five years dismantling three Eastern Conference favorites without a shred of humility. Irving is an exceptional talent, and to be an afterthought in the roster-building plans for so many teams at the age of 30 takes a special person too.
Now he must either latch on to Durant’s exit strategy, negotiate an unprecedented buyout in the prime of his basketball career, or actually report to work and rekindle the value he has accumulated as a player.
Sean Marks
We can’t let Brooklyn off the hook. Marks made his mark as an executive who transformed the Nets from a disastrous trade in stars from the past into a rollicking playoff opponent, only to make the same mistake as his predecessor. The pile of unprotected draft picks he traded for James Harden to assemble three of the most unpredictable superstars in NBA history for the league’s worst chemistry experiment could join Billy King’s takeover of Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce as a catastrophe that will Franchise throwing back decades.

The only way Marks can salvage this mess is by trading Durant for a loot of equal value. Even that can’t get rid of the stench. The nets ran around like a headless chicken at the beginning of the free hand. They traded a first-round pick for Royce O’Neale, which is only really helpful for a competitor. They ran 25-year-old Brown for $13.3 million and signed 33-year-old Patty Mills for $14.5 million in the same two-year window.
Nic Claxton for $20 million over two years is fine. Then you remember how much Marks surrendered to his stars. The Nets signed DeAndre Jordan to a four-year, $40 million deal just to satiate Durant upon his arrival, despite having Jarrett Allen on the roster. They spent $6 million and four second-round picks to end Jordan’s deal last September, then dumped Allen in the Harden trade for a pittance.
Of course, Allen is now an All-Star for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Oh, and Nets can coach Kenny Atkinson, who just helped the Warriors win another title, all because Durant and Irving got to manage the team. Perhaps Marks will eventually regain control of his organization.

Golden State general manager Bob Myers has spent the last few weeks praising owner Joe Lacob for his willingness to invest heavily in the luxury tax, even for the 15th member of their championship roster. “A lot of owners would never have done that,” he told The Athletic. Myers added in his exit interview, “We’re going to do our best to bring … all these guys back. Thankfully, this ownership group supports that.”
Fast forward to July 1st and the Warriors lost Gary Payton II and Otto Porter Jr. to higher bidders and Nemanja Bjelica to the Euroleague. Those are financially prudent decisions, especially with Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody and James Wiseman replacing them in the playoff rotation, but can we stop pretending the NBA’s billionaires are charities? The Warriors’ possessions are worth billions and they will benefit from this past season. They bought the team for $450 million in 2010, and it’s worth $5.6 billion.
They also have a breaking point in what they’re willing to spend, even if it’s higher than Nuggets owner Stan Kroenke, who also owns the Los Angeles Rams, Colorado Avalanche and Arsenal F.C. belong, and who has just dove under the luxuries of taxes, despite being one of the richest people in the world.
The Knicks and Lakers forever
Jalen Brunson, Isaiah Hartenstein, and Mitchell Robinson are quality players, which is more than New York can say for any of its free agent classes, but signing all three for a total of $180 million feels a bit excessive — and resembles last year’s plan that the Knicks have been trying to unravel this offseason.
After his first full season in the front office, Executive Leon Rose spent a combined $310 million on Julius Randle, Evan Fournier, Derrick Rose, Alec Burks and Kemba Walker. The Knicks didn’t want a single one of those deals until the end of last season. They traded a first-round pick, six second-round picks, and $6 million to come out below Burks, Noel, and Walker just so they could pay Brunson like an All-Star.
Two years and $16.7 million is decent for Hartenstein, but then why turn back and give Mitchell Robinson $60 million over the next four years? It’s difficult to see a coherent direction for the Knicks, so status quo.
Ditto for the Lakers, who didn’t have any money to splurge this summer. They failed to hold Malik Monk and spent their midlevel exception with Lonnie Walker IV, a 3 and D substitute without the 3 or D.
The Lakers issued minimum contracts for Damian Jones, Troy Brown Jr. and Juan Toscano-Anderson, bringing the total number of Klutch Sports clients to at least eight. (Klutch is representing LeBron James. Remember how we discussed separation of church and state regarding Durant and the Nets?)
The San Antonio Spurs and Chicago Bulls refused to extend qualifying offers to Walker and Brown. Jones was out on 10-day contracts for the second half of last season. At least Juan Toscano-Anderson carries some championship DNA from the Warriors, even though he played 17 significant playoff games.
It’s saying a lot that this could be an upgrade from last season’s disastrous offseason, when manager Rob Pelinka traded for Russell Westbrook and signed a host of other washed-up veterans who turned a title contender into a laughing stock. It still does nothing to tackle another star-rich chemical disaster.
So much for the Lakers’ state of emergency.
Fringe Eastern Conference contender
After enduring the first night of free agency, Celtics manager Brad Stevens quickly signed veteran sharpshooter Danilo Gallinari for the mid-level taxpayer exception, trading Daniel Theis, Aaron Nesmith and their 2023 first-round draft pick to the Indiana Pacers against former Rookie of the Year Malcolm Brogdon.
Within hours of Friday, Stevens addressed two of the depth issues that cost Boston a title last season. Gallinari is a big wing who can ease the pressure on Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown in the regular season and save their energy for the playoffs, and Brogdon can lead the offense when his teammates die on the vine and commit turnover after turnover . Both Gallinari and Brogdon can also put out the lights, making 38% of their 9.3 combined 3-point attempts per game combined over the course of their careers.
The question is their health, but no one is asked to carry a heavy burden.
Meanwhile, the Milwaukee Bucks kept their core on affordable salaries (Bobby Portis, Pat Connaughton, Wesley Matthews and Jevon Carter for a combined $21.6 million next season) and added veteran Joe Ingles for the taxpayer middle-class exception added. If Ingles returns to form early in the playoffs after his ACL surgery in February, his sharpshooting (41 3P% for his career) and playmaking will come in handy.
The Philadelphia 76ers hired PJ Tucker from the Heat, added Danuel House and traded against De’Anthony Melton on draft night. The Atlanta Hawks traded three first-round picks to pair Dejounte Murray with fellow All-Star Trae Young. All of this was done to gain ground against the heavyweights at the top of the Eastern Conference.
Still, the Celtics and Bucks, the two best teams in the east last season, stayed away from the pack in the first 24 hours of free hands, which is all bad news for the Heat unless they win the Durant Sweepstakes.

Tesla’s Model Y and Model 3 named ‘most American-made cars’ in new survey
Tesla’s Model Y and Model 3 vehicles have been dubbed “the most American-made cars” in a new poll, and yet President Joe Biden has barred Elon Musk’s company from the EV Summit and named GM the leader in electric vehicles.
“They have so much power in the White House that they can exclude Tesla from an EV summit,” Musk said when speaking to Tesla owners in Silicon Valley.
And to add insult to injury, President Biden congratulated GM CEO Mary Barra at a separate event for leading the electric vehicle revolution.
“I think it was in the same quarter that GM shipped 26 EVs and Tesla shipped 300,000,” Musk continued.

The poll was conducted by Cars.com’s annual American Made Index, which ranked the Tesla Model Y compact SUV as the number one American-made car, followed by the Model 3 compact sedan in second place.
The index is based on a specific set of data, including where the cars are assembled, sourcing of parts under the American Automobile Labeling Act, and employment at the factories.
Jenni Newman, Editor-in-Chief of Cars.com, said in a statement: “The composition of this year’s much-anticipated American Made Index is particularly interesting in the context of our current market, where high gasoline prices and tight inventories are meeting peaks in consumer interest in electric vehicles and a increased demand for American-made products.
“That Tesla – an American-made all-electric brand – appears frequently and at the top of the list could signal an imminent convergence of market forces that could really explode once we break through microchip supply chain woes, especially when gas prices are historically high stay. It also bodes well for other OEMs, including Honda, Ford and GM, who are working to diversify product lines with more EV and hybrid options.’
The EV Summit, held September 1-2, saw several big names in the industry, GM, Ford and Stellantis, all except Tesla.

“I’ll leave you to draw your own conclusions,” Psaki said.
But she said the three companies invited to the summit were “the three largest employers in the United Auto Workers.” Tesla’s auto workers are not unionized.

And this was also the event where GM was lauded for starting the EV revolution.
It wasn’t until a month later, in February, that Biden finally mentioned Tesla when discussing his efforts to get more electric vehicles on the road.
“Since 2021, companies have announced investments totaling more than $200 billion in domestic manufacturing here in America, from iconic companies like GM and Ford building new electric vehicle manufacturing; to Tesla, our country’s largest electric vehicle maker,” Biden said at a White House event on cutting energy bills.
Musk has yet to be invited to a meeting with other corporate leaders in the electric vehicle industry, and Biden reportedly has no plans to invite him anytime soon, more than a half-dozen sources close to the matter told CNBC.
