Meet high stakes poker newcomer Kim Hultman of LetsGiveItASpin Fame

High Stakes Poker made its Season 9 debut on PokerGO on Monday night and those watching were mesmerized by Kim Hultman, the show’s newest entrant from the LetsGiveItASpin Twitch and YouTube channels, who was something of an easy gun at the table.
While filming the legendary cash game poker show, PokerNews caught up with Hultman, a casino streamer from Sweden who now lives in Malta, to find out what he’s all about and his poker experience.
First broadcast on Game Show Network in 2006, High Stakes Poker isn’t just about the big superstar poker pros like Doyle Brunson and Daniel Negreanu. Non-poker celebrities and wealthy entrepreneurs have also made the show entertaining.

Former online poker player
Hultman began his career in the gaming industry many years ago as a poker player. He played poker for a living until 2015 when he found a new hobby, streaming slot games.
“So I started online at Everest Poker, they had freeroll limit hold’em tables back in 2006/2007,” Hultman told PokerNews. “If you won one of these tables, you would win 5 cents. And then I took the 5 cents to a bigger table and if you win that you would get 25 cents. And then I would take the bigger tables. I started freerolls.”
Hultman played online poker in the early years of High Stakes Poker. He vividly remembers watching the show back then.
“It was my dream to be on the show and that’s why I’m here now,” said the Swedish player.
Years later, he finally got the opportunity to compete on the poker show he always loved. During the first episode on Monday he was quite active, much more active than Phil Ivey who folded all but one hand. But the experience of playing against the 10-time WSOP bracelet winner was quite exciting for the slots player.
“Phil Ivey has always been the G.O.A.T for me,” he said. “I was thrilled to play with him. Negreanu, Doyle, Patrik Antonius, they’re all great.”
Hultman played a couple of memorable hands in Episode 1 of Season 9, both of which he’d probably like to forget. In the first, he folded on a board with four pair of spades on the river to Negreanu’s oversized bet with trips (no flush).
The second hand was against Ivey, in which Hultman three-bet with versus . Hultman flopped top pair but checked in position on the button and allowed Ivey to hit his deuce on the turn and then failed to fold to a big bet on the river.
“I’m very happy with my game, especially when you look at his hand,” said Hultman. “Maybe I should have folded the river, but he really polarized himself.”
What is LetsGiveItASpin?
Hultman was joined at the PokerGO studio by some fans of his YouTube channel, whom he befriended, to film high stakes poker. These fans came to support their favorite casino streamer in action at the high stakes poker table.
The slots player founded the YouTube page LetsGiveItASpin in 2015, which has over 90,000 subscribers. His channel has surpassed 40 million views across hundreds of videos. He also has a Twitch account with over 61,000 followers.
Hultman is similar to poker streamers except he plays slots instead of poker, but the reason his social media channels are so successful is similar to the top poker streamers.
“I always play with my own money and we also encourage responsible gaming. So I think they see I’m kidding, but I’m real too.”
“I’ve always had very strong values,” Hultman said when asked why his channel has a larger audience than some other casino streamers. “I always play with real money, I always play with my own money and we also encourage responsible gaming. So I think they see I’m kidding, but I’m real too.”
Playing slot machines for a living is in most cases a losing proposition. The house has an edge and the machines are rigged in the casino’s favour. But he’s still able to make a living playing slots because he knows how to monetize his social media presence and he’s worked the system. But he said his main income currently comes from investments outside of his streaming career.
“From the beginning, casinos have given me deposit bonuses that have a positive expected value,” he explains. “But I also monetize it through affiliation. So if you sign up (to an online casino) through me, I get a commission.”
The Swedish player’s most watched video is a clip from a wild slot session in 2016 where he turned 192 kr (20 USD) into over 32,000 kr (3,385 USD) in a bonus game. This video has surpassed 822,000 views, but the money he was playing for back then is worth pennies to him now.
Hultman says he loves poker – more live than online – and that we may see him at some big events later on. At the moment he is still working on a career that he enjoys and that also pays more than just the bills.

High Stakes Poker Season 9 finally aired on PokerGO this week and viewers were delighted to see some familiar faces from the show’s early years including Phil Ivey, Tom Dwan and Patrick Antonius.
In the premiere episode, a number of poker legends were joined by several newcomers, and one of them stood out for playing like a loose cannon. That was Kim Hultman, a casino and slots streamer.
Who is Kim Hultman?
For those unaware, Hultman runs the popular LetsGiveItASpin channel on YouTube and Twitch. Born in Sweden, Hultman now resides in Malta where he streams his online casino and slot games. He joined the online casino livestream scene in November 2015.
Before becoming a casino streamer, Hultman was a professional poker player. He began his poker journey on the virtual felts, playing at Everest Poker. Hultman competed in the online poker room’s freeroll tournaments in 2006-2007. These freerolls awarded 5 cents and Hultman would turn that into decent winnings by playing in bigger games.
An avid fan of high stakes poker
High Stakes Poker was introduced in 2006 and originally aired on Game Show Network (GSN). The show was a smash hit and became one of the world’s most popular poker shows of all time. Hultman has been a big fan of high stakes poker ever since, and it was his dream to appear on the show. Now that dream finally came true when he got the chance to join the poker greats on the show.
Sharing his experience with the poker legends, Hultman said he was simply overwhelmed rubbing shoulders with the elite.
In the first episode, Hultman showed his aggressive side and was even more active than Ivey when the 10-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner folded for the most part.
The casino streamer played two memorable hands against Negreanu and Ivey, and while they weren’t particularly good moves, Hultman said he’s still happy with his play.
Hultman was more motivated to do his best while filming the show as several followers of his YouTube channel were there to give their support.
What is a Continuation Bet (C-Bet) & Why Does It Matter
The continuation bet (aka c-bet) is one of the most fundamental concepts in poker. In community card games like Texas Hold’em and Omaha, most flops include an opportunity for a player to c-bet.
By definition, a c-bet occurs when a player raises before the flop and then proceeds with another bet on the flop. A player who raises pre-flop first (RFI) or makes last pre-flop raise and is called usually has an opportunity to c-bet when the flop hits the board.
Let’s take a look at the C-Bet poker concept, one of the most important fundamental steps to master in the game.
What is a Poker C-Bet?
The preflop aggressor doesn’t always get a chance to c-bet. More often than not, however, the player who makes the last bet/raise before the flop also has the opportunity to make the first bet on the flop.

In this hand of high stakes poker, Daniel Negreanu opens to $1,600 from the hijack and is called by Kim Hultman on the button and Doyle Brunson in the big blind. The flop comes, Brunson checks and Negreanu bets.
Negreanu’s flop bet qualifies as a continuation bet because he made the first preflop raise and continued with another bet when he checked postflop.
Had Brunson led with a bet on the flop, Negreanu wouldn’t have had a c-bet opportunity in the hand. Leading (also known as donk betting) occurs when a player who has called a preflop raise makes the first bet on the flop.
However, donk bets are not common in modern Texas Hold’em. If you’re the preflop aggressor, most of the time the action on the flop will check to you.
Let’s look at another c-bet example, this time with a theoretical look at the same hand if the preflop action had been a little different:

Daniel Negreanu is in the hijack and raises to $1,600 with 6 4 . Kim Hultman three-bets to $5,000 on the button with Q♣ J♠. Doyle Brunson folds in the big blind and Negreanu calls the $5,000 bet.

The pot is $11,000 and the flop is T♠ 9♠ 6♠.
Negreanu checks, Hultman bets $3,500 and Negreanu folds.
In this case, Hultman was the final preflop aggressor. Although Negreanu raised first, Hultman made the final preflop raise. By just calling the 3-bet, Negreanu is no longer the preflop aggressor.
As the preflop aggressor, Hultman is now given the opportunity to c-bet. In this theoretical example, Hultman’s $3,500 c-bet causes Negreanu to fold and Hultman wins the pot.

Basic c-bet strategy
In position vs. out of position
In general, you can c-bet much more often when playing a pot in position (IP), and you should exercise caution when c-betting while playing out of position (OOP).
For example, one of the most common c-betting opportunities you will encounter occurs when you have raised preflop from the button and the big blind calls. You play the rest of the hand with a positional advantage if you’re the button preflop raiser, so you can c-bet aggressively in many situations.
Let’s say you open preflop from the button, the big blind calls and the flop comes T♠ 5♥ 3♦.
As the preflop raiser in position, you can c-bet the button with most hands in your preflop opening range. The big blind has a very large preflop calling range against the button, and as the button you can take advantage of this by c-betting big from in-position and forcing the big blind to fold the weak hands in his range.
The same T♠ 5♥ 3♦ flop requires a very different strategy when considering a c-bet from out of position. For example, let’s say you open from the cutoff and the button calls.
On any flop of ten high or lower in a CO vs. BTN single-raised pot scenario, most of the time you should check the flop. The button’s calling range against the cutoff is quite narrow and can include many medium to low pocket pairs that do well on ten-high and low flops.
The button’s preflop calling range pairs very well with a flop like T♠ 5♥ 3♦ and can also play in position against a preflop open from any position.
Whether it’s a CO vs BTN setup, or a setup where you opened preflop and got a call from a player in position against you, it’s best to start with your C -Bets to be very picky in general.
Reach vs Reach
Whenever you flop in a single-raise pot, think about how the board relates to your range and how it relates to your opponents’ range. For example, if you open from early position and the flop comes Q♦ J♠ T♣, that flop will crush your range as a preflop raiser from early position.
Your EP opening range includes pocket pairs like aces and kings, giving you a strong overpair on the flop. The EP range also includes Queens, Jacks and 10s (all giving you a set on the flop) and Ace-King (giving you the nut straight).
If you open from EP and get a caller from any position, depending on the position and the player, those positions will often triple ace-king, pocket aces, kings-queens, and maybe pocket jacks. When you open from early position and get called, your opponent doesn’t have as many very strong hands in their range as you do on a flop like Q♦ J♠ T♣.
Therefore, you can often c-bet flops like Q♦ J♠ T♣ since you have a range advantage and a nut advantage.
However, on a flop like 9♠ 8♥ 7♦, the preflop caller takes the range advantage. While both the EP opener and the preflop caller can have sets, straights and draws on this flop, the preflop caller’s narrow calling range makes it much more likely that he connected well on this flop.
When a flop like 9♠ 8♥ 7♦ comes on the board, you should check often as a preflop raiser, especially if you’re playing out of position.
Multiway C bet strategy
Multiway pots change c-betting dynamics significantly. You will often come across pots involving three or more players in live poker, which generally offer many more multiway spots than a typical online poker game.
In general, you should c-bet strong value hands, high equity draws, and hands that can win on the turn equity in multiway play.
For example, let’s say you open from early position and receive calls from the button and the big blind. The flop comes A♦ J♠ 5♠.
The big blind often checks to you, giving you a c-bet opportunity. You can c-bet this flop with strong ax hands (like AK, AQ), spade flush draws, and maybe hands like K♦Q♦/K♦T♦ if those hands are in your opening range. Very strong value hands like two pair and sets should almost always be c-bets.
If you opened from EP and only got called from the big blind, you could bet a flop like A♦ J♠ 5♠ very wide. Hands like KK, QQ, and low pocket pairs could be good c-bet candidates on a Double Broadway board that favors your range.
For multiway bets, however, you should generally stick to strong value hands and high-equity bluffs as c-bets.
