AceShowbiz – 40 Cal’s missing daughter reportedly died of suicide. More than 10 days after the rapper’s daughter, Saniyya Dennis, was reported missing, police are finding the college student may have taken her own life.
During a news conference on Thursday, May 6, New York officials announced they had reached the conclusion after conducting a full investigation into the teen’s whereabouts. “An extensive search and review of the evidence has been conducted and it appears that this poor girl took her own life,” Erie County District Attorney John Flynn told reporters.
Flynn supported her claim and said investigators spoke to two people who communicated with Dennis on the day she was last seen. One of the people, a male friend, said the college student had expressed suicidal intentions after breaking up with her boyfriend earlier that day. The friend told investigators they spent several hours on the phone and Dennis appeared to have reconsidered her initial plans to kill herself.
Around 11 a.m. that night, Dennis allegedly threw her personal belongings into a trash can just before her bus ticket was swiped twice. She was followed to a bus, where she reportedly got off near the Niagara Falls Visitor Center, and security cameras showed her in the park around a quarter past midnight.
At the time, the 19-year-old was still communicating with her boyfriend via SMS and phone calls and is said to have told him that she wanted to jump off. However, she later shared with him that she had spoken to her mother on the phone and was returning to Buffalo. Around 1:30 a.m., Dennis’ phone had gone off cell service.
However, Flynn noted: “Without a body, without an autopsy being done, we’ll never know for sure. All I can do is present to you what I have and what I have presented… all I had… . to her parents.”
Previously, 40 Cal expressed frustration at the alleged lack of police attempts to locate his missing daughter. “I’m really frustrated and upset with the way this case is being handled,” he told BNC News. He claimed authorities hesitated with their feet in search efforts while he and his friends and family stormed the streets of Buffalo, handing out flyers and knocking on doors.
The rapper added the case was turned over to the university police, claiming “they fumbled around” because they weren’t equipped for a situation like this. Cal also shared that there is video showing his daughter with a man in the elevator. After waiting days for the footage, Cal asked police who the man was. He claimed the authorities had not even started investigating the unsub.
Meanwhile, the university’s police chief, Peter Carey, said in a statement earlier this week: “Our sole objective in this investigation is to locate Saniyya and reconnect her with her family. Understandably, emotions are running high at the moment, but I want to make it clear that our department will not rest until Saniyya is found… I understand that there is a great desire for new details on this case, but to ensure the integrity of this multi-agency investigation , we are currently limited in our ability to share further information.”
Dennis was reported missing from SUNY Buffalo State College as of Saturday, April 24th. She was last seen leaving her dorm around 11 p.m. On April 29, 40 Cal took to his Instagram page to enlist the help of his fans in finding his daughter.
“My daughter Saniyya is missing from Buffalo State College…” he posted along with a picture of Dennis in a green dress. He even offered a $10,000 reward for “anyone with helpful information” about his daughter’s whereabouts.
40 Cal did not respond to the conclusion of the police investigation. As of Thursday, he kept posting people’s messages about his missing daughter, as well as fans’ messages of condolences to him and his family.

Dennis, a 19-year-old student at Buffalo State University, was last seen leaving her dorm on April 24. Byrd has been in the Buffalo area for the last week hoping to find her.
During a news conference Thursday (May 6), Erie County District Attorney John Flynn told reporters that after reviewing phone records and surveillance video, he believes Dennis died by suicide. “Apparently that poor girl took her own life,” Flynn said.
Dennis reportedly got into an argument with her boyfriend on April 24 in New York City. After unsuccessfully trying to contact him 59 times, she reportedly called another male friend in New York City and discussed killing herself. After leaving her dorm, Dennis reportedly went to an on-campus garbage can, where she “threw away personal items that would lead anyone to believe she would not return to the dorm.”
Dennis added that the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority video shows Dennis riding two different buses to Niagara Falls. At around 12:18 a.m., the friend Dennis called texted him that he would call the police if they didn’t call him within 30 seconds. Then he called her and the two talked for about an hour. Dennis reportedly told the girlfriend that she was going home on the bus, which the district attorney said was wrong.
Dennis’ cell phone reportedly went offline around 1:20 am on April 25, meaning the phone was either destroyed or turned off. On April 26, Dennis’ family reported her missing to the Buffalo State Police, prompting an investigation.
“I feel terrible for the parents,” Flynn said. “As a father of five children, it’s difficult.”

According to Buffalo State Police, Dennis’ phone last pinged near Goat Island. 40 Cal has criticized police efforts so far and even met with the city’s Mayor Byron Brown to discuss the case. At a news conference on the Buffalo state campus Friday afternoon, the family expressed frustration at the search, raising questions about the speed of the investigation and arguing that police should have done more.
