Alongside an intense training schedule and her political science courses at the University of Bologna, Plebani not only keeps her fans updated on a daily basis on Instagram, but also posts photos of herself with inspirational messages of triumph and transformation. “At first I wasn’t too confident about showing off my ‘new body’ with all these scars, but then I realized it can help break down prejudice and stereotypes,” she explains. “When I first shared photos of myself in swimwear, I was shocked by all the positive news.” She proudly recalls one instance where a fan confided in her that she had similar scars but was afraid they would in shorts or a bathing suit until she saw Plebani doing it. “With body positivity, social media helps contribute to a more confident society,” says Plebani, adding that she’s tapped into a community of incredible women and para-athletes on Instagram who inspire them to defy boundaries and prejudice and unite lead a healthy lifestyle as possible.

Plebani’s daily routine is decidedly streamlined. “I’m really bad at sticking to skincare and makeup,” she admits with a laugh. Most days, she goes faceless and simply cleanses with a natural, homemade face wash—almond, lavender, and extra virgin olive oil. When she’s not swimming that day, she swipes a few coats of mascara onto her lashes to open up her icy blue gaze. But what her followers always want to know is how she maintains her thick, waist-length auburn mane — often braided into sleek pigtails or a colorful headscarf. Your tried and true trick? Saturates her cascading lengths with coconut oil for deep moisture and radiant shine. Ultimately, Plebani’s secret to looking and feeling good lies in following a healing and energizing plant-based diet. “Five years ago I made a decision to eat healthier and started cutting out dairy and meat,” she explains. “I’ve learned to listen to my body and realized how much stronger I feel when I eat nutritious, plant-based meals.”
Plebani is now a member of the Italian private professional triathlon team 707Team and is hoping to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. But she’s never too busy to be a beacon of body positivity. “If I can help just one girl or boy feel more confident in his or her body, it means the world to me,” she says. Plebani even has his sights set on civil service and hopes to one day run for office. “Am I dreaming too much?” she wonders. “Because if so, I’m fine with that.”

Biography[edit]
Plebani was born on March 1st, 1996 in Gavardo in the province of Brescia and lives in Palazzolo sull’Oglio. Since her childhood she has been involved in numerous sports such as dancing, gymnastics, track and field and snowboarding.
On April 27, 2011, Plebani contracted meningitis, which she survived with the loss of the phalanges of her hands and toes.[4] In November 2011, just out of the hospital, the day before the New York City Marathon, she competed in the 5K and crossed the finish line with 28 runners from the Monza Marathon team. In the meantime she became part of the art4sport team through which she started canoeing and snowboarding.[5] Plebani holds a degree in political science from the University of Bologna.[6]
She competed in snowboarding at the 2014 Winter Paralympics and kayaking at the 2016 Summer Paralympics.[7] In 2017 she started paratriathlon and competed in the 2017 ITA Paratriathlon National Championships and the 2017 ITU Paratriathlon World Cup in Besancon, winning gold medals.
