Konda Surekha (born August 19, 1965) is an Indian politician of the Indian National Congress. She served as the MLA of Telangana’s Shyampet, Parkal, and Warangal East constituencies.[1][2]
Early life[edit]
Konda Surekha was born in the city of Warangal, India to Thumma Chandramouli and Thumma Radha and married to Konda Murali.
Career [edit]
Konda Surekha was elected Mandal Parishad in 1995. In 1996 she was promoted to PCC and in 1999 to M.L.A. from Shayampet. chosen. In 1999 she became Treasurer of the Congress Legislature Party and a member of the Women & Child Welfare Committee, Health and Primary Education Standing Committee. In 2000 she was appointed an AICC member.
In 2004 she was elected MLA Shayampet and was the official spokeswoman for the Congress Party in 2004. In 2005 she became an ex officio member of the Municipal Society. In 2009, she was elected Parkal’s MLA and sworn in as Minister for Women’s Development and Children, Disability and Youth Services.
She was Minister for Women’s Development and Children, Disability and Youth Welfare under Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, but resigned after YSR’s death when his son Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy was not appointed Chief Minister, despite having majority support from the MLA.[ 4] [5]
She resigned from her MLA seat on July 4, 2011 for the Jagan cause and later for the name of YSR mentioned in FIR. She ran as the YSR Congress Party candidate in by-elections held on June 12, 2012 in the Parkal Assembly constituency.
She resigned from the YSRC party in July 2013, citing abuse by members of the Jagan Mohan Reddy party as the reason. Days before the 2014 Indian general election, she joined the Telangana Rashtra Samithi party and ran for the Warangal-East Assembly constituency.[7] She won as MLA of Warangal East (Constituency of Assembly) by a majority of 55,085 votes.
She recently resigned from the TRS party along with her husband and joined the Congress party. She can contest the next election of the Parakal Assembly.

Konda Surekha Complete Bio & Career
Konda Surekha entered politics after being elected Mandal Parishad in 1995. In 1996 she was elected PCC member. After seeing her popularity, her party decided to give her a ticket to the 1999 general election. This is how she went from Shayampet to M.L.A. chosen. She won consecutive elections. After her election in 1999, she was re-elected in 2004 from the same constituency. In 2009, she campaigned from Parkal Constituency and won in an overwhelming victory. She was immediately introduced into the larger system of YSR and given the post of Minister for Women’s Development and Child Protection.
Konda was employed as Minister of Disabled and Youth Welfare and Women’s Development and Child Welfare under Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s reign but resigned from her post after the death of YSR when his son Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy was not appointed Chief Minister despite being a senior man and also had a larger number of MLAs support.
