That’s how it all started
Alexa was a highly competitive soccer player as a teenager, playing at midfield in the Elite Clubs National League at the nation’s highest level until injury struck. After tearing ACLs in both her right and left knees within 10 months, Alexa left the field as an athlete and re-emerged as a broadcaster. At the age of 17, Alexa decided to follow her dream and try her hand at being a sports presenter. Every Friday night, she would travel to the high school football game with the most notable athletes and begin practicing her interviewing skills. She wrote her own questions, edited her own work, and used her mother as a cameraman. She created a YouTube channel and used the power of social media to release her packs weekly. This experience cemented her love for broadcasting. These interviews opened the first door for Alexa when Sports Recruits, an internet recruitment company with over 150,000 Instagram followers, started posting their interviews. While still in high school, Alexa interviewed athletes at numerous 7v7 tournaments, high school CIF-SS championship games, Elite 11 Finals in California and Oregon, and the Army All-American Bowl in Texas.
college experiences
During Alexa’s freshman year at TCU, she reached out to the football department to work with them and suggested ideas to Head Football Coach Gary Patterson. She has had the opportunity to interview high school recruits before TCU home games, on official visits, and during Junior Days. After starting small and proving herself, Alexa’s role on the team continued to grow over the next two years. She covered Pro Day, hosted Signing Day Live and produced various packs for TCU Football on social media. She also began hosting the Big 12 Look-In, which is part of the screen show that airs during TCU’s home games at Amon G Carter Stadium. Alexa became a co-host on Horned Frogs Nation, where she wrote and reported her own segment called Sports Report, reviewing highlights for all TCU Athletics, as well as conducting one-on-one interviews with athletes. The show aired weekly on FOX Sports Southwest. Finally, Alexa worked as a TCU Football In-Stadium Reporter and Host during her senior year and continued to work as a co-host on Horned Frogs Nation. She was also very proud to create and host two new social media shows for TCU Athletics, Rookie Roll Call, a series showcasing the new TCU basketball players, and The 817, a weekly Show talking about TCU Athletics and highlighting areas in and around Fort Worth. Alexa graduated from Texas Christian University in December 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Sports Broadcasting with a minor in Journalism.
Professional development
In the spring of her sophomore year, Alexa landed an internship at FOX Sports Southwest. She worked behind the scenes and videotaped, but she took every opportunity to do more and learn. She observed talent and supported producers at every opportunity, gaining experience and building relationships. These relationships led to new opportunities. In 2017 and 2018, Alexa worked part-time as a reporter for Fox Sports Southwest to cover high school football games in Texas. Her interviews and commentary were featured weekly on the highly rated show, High School Scoreboard Live. Alexa also worked as a court reporter for the WNBA Dallas Wings during the 2017 and 2018 seasons. Alexa worked on two college football games during the 2018 bowl season. She served as In-Stadium Host & Reporter for the CFP Semifinals at the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic between Clemson and Notre Dame at AT&T Stadium. She also served as a reporter on the sidelines of the Cheez-It Bowl in Phoenix, AZ for TCU Football radio coverage. In July 2019, Alexa relocated across the country to Washington DC to co-host DC Sports Live, a cross-platform sports talk and entertainment programming for NBC Sports Washington. In 2021, Alexa began her new role at NBC Sports Washington hosting the Washington Capitals Pre/Post Game Shows.
