A white woman who allegedly threatened to call the police to a black couple at a Brooklyn dog park — while telling them to “stay in [your] hood” — has been fired from her job, her former employer said.
Emma Sarley, who was identified by fellow dog owner Frederick Joseph as the woman filmed at the McCarren Park confrontation in Williamsburg, had worked for virtual conferencing software platform Bevy, according to her deleted LinkedIn page.
“@BevyHQ does not tolerate discriminatory behavior of any kind. Yesterday, an employee engaged in behavior that goes against our values and was terminated. We sincerely apologize to everyone involved,” CEO Derek Andersen wrote on Twitter on Sunday.
“I personally hope that beyond that, there can be some kind of resolution between the two parties and I will help if I can,” he added.
Joseph, the man involved in the altercation with Sarley, responded to the decision.
“I’ve been told that @DerekjAndersen and @bevyhq let go of Emma Sarley as her racism towards me and her fiancé doesn’t align with her values. I hope this is a lesson in responsibility and consequences for Emma and others,” he wrote on Twitter.
