It’s like “a vibration moving through my whole body,” she explained. “It’s a feel-good vibe, and it can be overwhelming.”
On Sex, Love & goop, Jaiya works with Damon and Erika, a couple who believe they have mismatched sex drives. Over the course of their time together, she helps them understand that they’re not incompatible after all — they just need to learn to speak each other’s sexual language. 1) How has life been since Sex, Love & Goop came out?
It was a whirlwind. What was so exciting for me is that we’re having this conversation. I had a feeling before the show even aired, I thought something was coming. It feels like we’re ready for a sexual expansion, you know, and a new conversation about sex and pleasure and an evolution of pleasure. So it’s really, really exciting.
2) It seems like people are feeling more sexually adventurous since vaccines became a thing. Did you notice that?
Yes, I’ve noticed that people get more adventurous in the bedroom. People want to have these conversations — I think one of the biggest things is [that] people don’t want to tolerate the way things were any longer. We’ve done a lot of introspection during Covid and now we come out and say, ‘Wait a minute. I won’t do this anymore. That’s how I want it.” There is more empowerment happening as we come out of this.
3) Tell me more about how you came up with the Erotic Blueprints. I read on your website that your research has revealed that couples have the same problems over and over again.
It started when I became a sexological bodyworker or a somatic sexologist and I was in school studying with a man named Joseph Kramer. He got someone named Jack Morin, who wrote a book entitled, to speak with us. (I highly recommend this book if you’re curious about eroticism and what shapes our eroticism.) In The Erotic Mind, Jack talks about something called “Erotic Core Issues.” And the core erotic themes are based on your peak erotic experiences. When I was young I remember this exercise where we sat across from someone and shared three of our greatest erotic experiences. It didn’t come from some kind of dysfunction or some bad thing that happened in our past. It came from what really turned us on.

4) This exercise happened during your training as a somatic sexologist?
It was actually in tantra training when I was about 19 years old. That was an early exercise, and Jack’s book reminded me of that. I started thinking about personality typing tests and thinking, well who are we erotic? Who are we as erotic beings? Just like when we take a test – like the five love languages or the Enneagram or the DiSC profile – there are all these different personality types. I was a bit of a geek when it came to personality tests. And [with] Joe Kramer and the sexological bodywork training, we learned something called body mapping; Body mapping is seeing someone aroused and becoming aroused. So I combined body mapping with the core erotic themes and personality typing and started noticing that when couples came to me about a discrepancy in their relationship – one wants one thing and the other wants something else – that’s it not that we all fall into the same box. Everyone was different. I noticed these five different categories, or ways we are wired, that came up over and over again.
It hit me like lightning while I was working on a client – a pair. He was having trouble getting aroused and she didn’t feel satisfied with their sexual relationship — maybe he wasn’t attracted to her, or maybe he just didn’t want sex. And he’s tried all the techniques you’ve read about, like “Give him more blowjobs!” or “Five ways to turn your partner on tonight!” And it didn’t work. And as I floated my hands over his body, his body began to tremble and convulse. And he started to get really aroused and his eyes opened up and he looked at me with these super big eyes and he said, “What’s happening to me?” And his wife looks at me and says, “What are you doing to him?” And I haven’t done anything. It was just wired energetically and nobody had ever touched him that way. Then I thought, oh, this person is an energeticist. And then later that afternoon I went and wrote down the sensual and the sexual.
5) How did the other two blueprints come about?
I had a client come to me who said I think that’s all I am. I don’t think I’m falling into anything. i don’t know what i am And I said, “Oh, that’s a shapeshifter – someone who can be them all.” And then the last thing I noticed was the pervert, and that came from my own partners. And it’s just kind of funny that on the test I’m lowest kinky – 0% kinky – and it’s highest. Only because of my own frame I didn’t see that until later.
6) I am so interested in understanding what it means to be an energeticist. We’ve seen a lot of this Blueprint guy on the show. And one of the difficult things about watching is that unless you’re an energetic and haven’t experienced it, you’re dying to know how they’re feeling. For example, the client whose eyes opened wide – how do you describe what he felt at that moment?
From a body sensation perspective, it can feel like electricity is moving through the body. It can feel like magnetism. If you’ve ever tried to bring two magnets together and you feel that force between the two magnets that won’t let them come together unless they’re the right poles. It can feel like big waves of heat moving through the body. I think the best analogy I have for this is if you’ve ever been in anticipation — when you’re falling in love with someone for the first time — for that very first kiss, and you’ve got all these OoOoOh feelings going through your body. I can only make it sound! Your body ignites from this anticipation. And then what happens to an energetic is because there are so many sensations of it that their body actually starts shaking with anticipation. If you have a dog and you come home from work and the dog is shaking because he’s so happy to see you, that’s how it is.
7) On the show you put on a blindfold to prove you’re not faking, that you can feel where your partner Ian’s hands are. Have you ever been accused of forging it?
I have a rule never to fake it because when you fake it you train someone to do something you don’t like.
And yes, people say they don’t believe what they see. And I was even surprised when I looked at it. I have that moment where I’m like, “Are you over my head?” And it was over my head. I can’t believe it when Ian and I play like this. It’s always a practice of trusting that what I’m feeling is true and then checking in so I can learn to trust and strengthen that muscle even more and observe it for myself. I thought wow this is amazing. For example, I knew exactly where he was.
8) When you felt his hand over your head, what did you feel in that moment that told you his hand was there?
I felt this really comfortable electricity at the top of my head. And I think that’s when I let him pull it off my pelvic floor, too. It felt like he had a cord attached from my head to the bottom of my pelvis and it ran all the way through my body. And it was very, very pleasant.
9) Did we actually see you having an energetic orgasm?
Yes. That’s an energetic orgasm you’ll experience on the show.

10) How does that feel and how does it compare to an orgasm you might get from other forms of stimulation?
There are many different types of orgasms that we can experience. I think we get caught up in this very limited definition of orgasm. So when someone is having an energetic orgasm or what I was experiencing in that moment, it can be very challenging to describe these things.
11) It’s so hard! How do you describe an otherworldly experience?
Yes. It’s like trying to describe something that has no words. It’s such a sensation. The best I can say is that something like a vibration is moving through my whole body. It’s a feel-good vibe and can be overwhelming. So I use tools like the breath or let it move my body instead of trying to hold the tension. When Damon experienced it [on Sex, Love & Goop], he held the suspense and didn’t let it through. Then I made him start pulling it off and that’s when we started crying. The orgasm comes from letting [the vibration] flow through it.
And nobody is broken or wrong if they don’t have these kinds of orgasms. I think we can get into some kind of orgasm chase.
12) Yes! Let’s stop chasing orgasms. We must go back to pleasure. In fact, you’re more likely to have an orgasm when you’re not obsessed with chasing it.
We have a saying called “pleasure first”. When you indulge in pleasure, new orgasmic possibilities open up to you. You asked what the difference is between energetic and physical [orgasms]. If it’s just [from] my clitoris, which has been my favorite orgasm for many years, it builds up so quickly. It feels like a genital sneeze. Not that there’s anything wrong with the genital sneeze – it’s like, oh, that felt so good. I’m glad I can sneeze. And there are so many other options. There are orgasms that roll all over the clitoris. There are deep pelvic floor orgasms. The pleasure possibilities are endless. I didn’t find the blanket.
13) When a couple takes the Erotic Blueprints quiz and finds out that they have completely different Blueprint types, how can you reassure them that they are not doomed?
I say these words: You are not lost. They have different blueprints; It’s not that you’re sexually incompatible. If it were about languages and your lover speaks Spanish and you speak English, that doesn’t mean you are incompatible as people. We go and we learn the language. i can learn spanish I can learn to speak Spanish to the point where Spanish turns me on now. And now I’m multilingual.
14) When people talk about astrology, they talk about certain signs being incompatible with each other. Are Erotic Blueprints less compatible than others?
They are all able to work. And I think a lot of people are like, oh, if we’re the same, that means we’re more compatible. That’s not necessarily true.
15) You definitely changed the lives of Damon and Erika on the show. What do you think is keeping more people from seeking help with their sex life?
I think there is a stigma that if you are seeking coaching or seeking help then something must be wrong or your relationship is doomed in some way. So I think that’s the first piece. And the second part is that we were taught not to talk publicly about sex, with other people. People come to me, and there’s often one person in a relationship who says, “My mom told me never to talk about sex.” And there’s a third piece, “We think we need to have sex all by ourselves find out.” [But] there’s a difference between knowing how to procreate and living as an artist in the bedroom. And there’s nothing wrong with wanting to learn how to become an adult artist.

16) Can people explore the Erotic Blueprints alone?
I want to break this down, that sex only happens in couples. That’s another myth. Take the blueprint quiz or do a body map of yourself to find out, well, “Who am I erotic?” If you know yourself, then you own this.
17) And you could try stuff while masturbating?
If you’re energetic, it might float your hands all over your body. Or if you’re sexual, maybe having fun with a vibrator. If you’re sensual, my god, get some oils, you know, just like shampooing your hair in the morning. These are things that can be easily integrated into your blueprint.
18) Back to something you said earlier… You did tantra training when you were 19? You must have known very early on that you wanted to do this type of work.
When I was a little girl, I kind of saw Dr. Ruth on TV and I thought that’s what I want to be. i want dr be Ruth when I grow up. So yeah, I’ve just always been super curious about sexuality. I would go to the library and get all the books to read. I wanted to know everything and how everything works and where babies come from. I think it was just a spiritual calling.
19) So you started this job straight out of school?
I actually went to school for musical theater and music and was also very interested in healing arts and energy work. So I sort of did both, but then I had a vocal cord injury when I was in school, and that set me on the path to becoming a full-time sexologist. It’s interesting how life leads you down these paths.
20) Is there anything else you think people should know about Erotic Blueprints or what they’ve seen on Sex, Love & Goop?
I think one of the most important things to know is that this is a journey. We can call it a sexual awakening journey. We can call it a journey to understand what you are. In essence, we are all these orgasmic beings. Our natural state is one of pleasure, joy and love. And the sexual journey can take you back to your natural state of being.
