“I think I’ve, yes, relied on my parents too much at times because I’m so used to being with them. But I think I need to learn more about taking responsibility and making my own decisions.”
Ko continued, “Of course I discussed my decision [to part with Leadbetter] with my parents. They have also expressed their opinion. But at the end of the day I made the ultimate decision to change… My parents are a big part of my golf career and I know without them I wouldn’t be here.”
Ko’s splits with Leadbetter and Caddy Hamilton aren’t the only changes the 19-year-old is set to undergo this off-season. She’s reportedly switching to PXG devices ahead of 2017 — a year she hopes will be less dramatic.
“I think my first tournament of the 2017 season will give me a whole new feeling, just like my first event as a rookie in the Bahamas,” said Ko. “My biggest goal in gaming is to have fun and have fun. Hopefully these changes will give me more confidence.”
