Mulhouse (AFP) – French swimmer Yannick Agnel, who won two gold medals at the 2012 Olympics, has admitted having sex with a minor – one of his coach’s daughters, a prosecutor said on Monday.

The 29-year-old was arrested on Thursday in his apartment in Paris on suspicion of rape and sexual assault and taken into police custody in Mulhouse in eastern France.
Agnel “recognizes the substance of the allegations against him,” Mulhouse prosecutor Edwige Roux-Morizot told a news conference, adding the swimmer “did not feel there was coercion”.
The prosecutor said the facts “constitute rape or sexual assault because there is a large age difference between him and the plaintiff, whom she named Naome Horter, one of the daughters of Agnel’s trainer Lionel Horter.”
The girl was 13 in 2016 when Agnel – who was 24 at the time – allegedly had sex with her, prosecutors said.
Meanwhile, the French Swimming Federation (FFN) announced on Monday that it would initiate a civil lawsuit in the case.
“The Federation has been informed of Mr Agnel’s admission of ‘the substance of the allegations against which he is accused’. Today it was officially decided to become a civil party in this case before the Mulhouse Court, which the Federation deeply regrets. ”
