In 2017, she was selected as the first female and first New Englander to conduct research on the Hazardous Weather Testbed FACETs (Forecasting a Continuum of Environmental Threats). This program assisted the National Weather Service in introducing a new probability-based warning system for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms. In 2018, she was invited back to the National Weather Service to experiment with GOES-R satellite technology for severe weather alerts. She has traveled the Midwest and New England sharing her love of prediction with kids at school.

She enjoys the challenge of forecasting the weather and decided to swap the heavy storms and tornadoes of the Midwest for the Northeast New England experience. NBC10 Boston announced Thursday that Cory Smith has been named nightly co-host and investigative reporter for NBC10 Boston News, and Tevin Wooten is joining the team as weekday weather forecaster.

Smith comes to Boston from WRC News 4, NBC’s Washington, D.C.-based network. He begins a new role at the NBCUniversal Boston Media Center in Needham on Monday, June 6, where he will initially spend some time transitioning to market. After that, Smith will be co-anchor at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Weekday evening news alongside NBC10 Boston Anchor, JC Monahan.

In addition to his role as anchor, Smith will be contributing to NBC10’s Boston investigation as an investigative reporter for the network’s task force.
