While broadcasting from the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, Santelli accused the government of “encouraging bad behavior”. and highlighted the possibility of a “Chicago Tea Party”. He suggested that individuals who knowingly obtained risky mortgages (and consequently faced the threat of foreclosure) were “losers.”[9] The Tea Party remark has been seen by some as “igniting” the Tea Party movement as a national phenomenon.[10][11]
