My Casting Story Hannah Barefoot on the New Infiniti QX60 Commercial

Hannah Barefoot is an actress, known for her work in films like Reinaldo Marcus Green’s King Richard and series like NBC’s Chicago Med. But when she sat down with Casting Networks, it was her role in a recent big-name commercial that was on the table. Read on for an insight into the casting story behind Barefoot Landing, the latest spot for the Infiniti QX60, which took her all the way to Warsaw, Poland and immersed the actress in a cross-cultural film experience.

Congratulations on the release of the new Infiniti QX60 Commercial, Beautiful Mess, in which you starred. What can you tell us about the booking process of the SAG AFTRA spot?

Thanks very much! This spot was one of the first in-person auditions I had last year. It was with Ross Lacy Casting and it was a really interesting experience because the whole thing was just reacting silently. The director wanted the performance to be incredibly subtle, and I remember having no idea how I came off during the audition. However, I decided to just do my best and the whole thing took about twenty seconds. I got a call back, which was also personal. I was in the room with the casting, but the director, producer, writer and ad agency were all in a Zoom call. It was funny because I could hear the director talking to me but couldn’t see him. However, he said a lot of encouraging things. And he ended up yelling out of the computer, “You got the job!”

Wow. I have a feeling you don’t hear that often while still in the room!

Yes and I will add that the call back was on a Friday, I was put on availability over the weekend and found out I booked it that Monday. At the weekend they told me I need a passport to shoot the commercial because the commercial would be filmed in Poland. I hadn’t known about this beforehand so thank goodness I had a valid passport and was fully vaccinated so I could travel without quarantine. In the end it was only 48 hours from booking the commercial to flying out to shoot – I was on a plane to Poland that Wednesday and stayed there for the next 10 days! The casting process was such a whirlwind and different kind of experience for me because I’m primarily a film/TV actor. Auditioning for a feature film or series requires a deep dive into the character you’re playing and the story you’re telling. But often you do not know immediately which story you will tell with commercials. It was fun having this experience of having the casting director walk me through the storyline of the Infiniti audition as I imagined how I was in the situation and responded to it.

It sounds like the casting process has kept you on your toes. Can you also tell us a little bit about your experience shooting abroad?

It was interesting when we came to Poland to shoot it because we ended up shooting two separate spots, one of which will be released later this year. The whole experience was incredible – we shot in Warsaw and it really is one of the most beautiful cities I’ve ever been to. I fell in love with the country as a whole, between its people, its culture and its food. And as far as filming logistics go, there were two American units that flew over from Los Angeles and New York, and one Polish unit. The director was American, as was one of our first ADs [Assistant Directors], but then we also had a Polish first AD. So all our notices were called first in English and then in Polish. The kids featured in the spot were all local and spoke Polish, so overall it was a really cross-cultural effort to do the spot. It was inspiring to see filmmakers from different parts of the world all working together in unison. My experience up until this point has been mostly in the American market, and it’s also been a nice window on the amazing talent outside of the US.

That seems like a wonderful perspective to gain while working on a job. You’ve also mentioned your work in feature films and series, and before we wrap up, I’d like to hear your insights on the differences between auditioning for commercials and film/TV?

That’s a really good question because they’re completely different animals. Even in theatre, there can be a big difference between acting for film and for television. But in general, features and series aim to tell a story about some aspect of humanity. And while you also tell a story in commercials, the end goal of a commercial is to make sure you’ve sold the product it’s showing. Your character must always fit within that framework, and as an actor, going into a commercial audition is important to best serve that overarching goal. For me, that includes the aspect of surrendering to the process, whatever the agency and client want, and prioritizing it rather than speaking your truth as an actor. Once you get used to it, the whole trading experience becomes really fun.

Next up for Barefoot is Dave Franco’s second feature film project from the director’s chair, Somebody I Used to Know. She will appear in the upcoming romantic comedy alongside the likes of Alison Brie, Jay Ellis, Kiersey Clemons, Haley Joel Osment, Amy Sedaris, Zoe Chao and Danny Pudi. Barefoot also works behind the camera and has some projects of his own in development. “I’m from Wyoming and I wrote a really authentic, joyful film called Wyoming Christmas Carol,” she shared. “It’s an indie Christmas rom-com that’s less in the Hallmark vein and more in the vein of The Family Stone meets Yellowstone.” Her goals for the rest of the year include directing the feature film, which includes the lead role, as well as directing her first short film. In the meantime, however, Barefoot can be seen as the face of the latest Infiniti QX60 commercial.

Erin Andrews calls the shots in the all-new QX60 in upcoming ‘INFINITI Unscripted with Erin Andrews’ commercial

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Accomplished TV host Erin Andrews is no stranger to reporting, but INFINITI’s latest “unwritten” assignment for veteran FOX Sports reporter may be relatively new.

Today INFINITI and Andrews announce that the broadcaster, entrepreneur and philanthropist will be covering the all-new 2022 INFINITI QX60 in an upcoming commercial titled “INFINITI Unscripted with Erin Andrews” to air this month. The commercial, which will air on the NFL Network (during NFL games December 18, 23 and 25) and is available online, pairs Andrews with the seven-seat, all-new QX60 to hear their unreserved attitude.

“The QX60 feels as good as it looks,” said Andrews. “It seems like you own your life, you own your job, you’re the boss of the world, which is a big deal for women these days. INFINITI come out with this brand new QX60 – this is fabulous, this is glamorous, this is well – organized and sporty – says a lot about them. It says, ‘We’re in your corner, we’re backing you, let’s just roll.'”

During a successful program for potential owners to express interest in the all-new SUV this summer, Andrews – along with other celebrities including Clinton Kelly, Gabby Douglas, Dulé Hill and Misha Collins – answered questions submitted by the all-new INFINITI QX60 Buyers via Cameo in a groundbreaking new partnership for both companies. Now Andrews shares her thoughts on the new SUV in the commercial.

“Partnering with Erin Andrews was a unique but natural fit for our all-new INFINITI QX60,” said Jeff Pope, Group Vice President, INFINITI Americas. “Our customers are brave, just like Erin, and their ‘unwritten’ views of our all-new SUV should give prospective QX60 owners a glimpse of how it can help them conquer life in style.”

Internal research leading up to the debut of the all-new three-row SUV revealed that more than 70% of prospective QX60 buyers felt automakers weren’t listening to them. Additionally, 90% of these buyers hold leadership positions at work and are four times more likely to be involved in philanthropy. Andrews is all of that – and more – making her an ideal and trusted partner to share her views on the all-new SUV and speak directly to potential buyers.

“Erin doesn’t pull any punches, so I can’t wait for consumers to hear their thoughts on the all-new QX60,” added Pope.

In addition to standard seating for up to seven people, the all-new QX60, with very limited availability, offers standard equipment such as a 12.3-inch INFINITI InTouch infotainment touchscreen, panoramic sunroof, heated front seats, leather seats and a power tailgate, wireless Apple CarPlay compatibility, a new 9-speed automatic transmission and more for $46,850 MSRP at launch. The all-new INFINITI QX60 can also be opulently outfitted with 20-inch wheels, enhanced head-up display, ProPILOT Assist, quilted semi-aniline leather-trimmed seats, a motion-activated tailgate and Bose Performance Series Audio on select trim levels.
