Despite this, Billy gives him another chance and lets him continue teaching the students after seeing how well he bonds with them.

On review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the first season holds an approval rating of 92%, based on 25 reviews, and an average rating of 6.92/10. The website’s critical consensus reads, “All American’s ambitious attempts to tackle class struggles and classroom drama largely play thanks to its winning cast—an auspicious start to a promising new series”.[47] Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned a score of 63 out of 100 based on 15 critics, indicating “generally favorable reviews”.[48]
The second season has a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 6 reviews, with an average rating of 8.75/10.[49]

In New Zealand, All American is aired as a web-only series on TVNZ OnDemand. On December 18, 2020, it was announced that The CW is in early development of a backdoor pilot for a spin-off of Geffri Maya’s character Simone Hicks reprising her role from All American.[55] On February 1, 2021, The CW gave the spin-off a pilot order and titled it as All American: Homecoming.[56] On March 29, 2021, Peyton Alex Smith, Cory Hardrict, Kelly Jenrette, Sylverser Powell, Netta Walker, and Camille Hyde were cast to star in the pilot.[57] On May 24, 2021, All American: Homecoming was picked up to series.[58] The backdoor pilot aired on July 5, 2021 as part of the third season of All American.[59] The series is scheduled to premiere on February 21, 2022.[60] On December 16, 2021, Mitchell Edwards who recurs as Cam Watkins on All American is set to reprise his role on this series as a series regular.[18]

All American Season 4 Episode 12 Review Babies and Fools
This sermon-centric episode was an intriguing change of pace.
After months of storylines about the struggles of others growing up, Episode 12 of All American Season 4 was more about a man trying to go straight for his daughter’s sake.
Also addressed was the fallout of Billy giving Preach a chance many, including Grace, didn’t think he should have.
Preach shooting Mo to save Coop is the narrative gift that keeps on giving.
Just when you think the story is over, it rears its ugly head again.
It should have been obvious that the gavel would fall on Preach after he laughed at Spencer and Coop’s concerns that the police had any objective new evidence.
And that despite Laura, the former prosecutor, being concerned about what she had unearthed about that evidence from her former colleagues.
Who do you think would better understand what makes a winnable case: The ex-D.A. or the ex-con?
Life just got too easy for Preach. He has a daughter who adores him. Thanks to Billy, he has found a way to contribute to society through his job as a tutor in South Crenshaw.
At this point, Preach should have looked behind him to see who was on his heels.
Instead he was caught off guard, not least in South Crenshaw where he had acquired a new reputation as an upstanding citizen.
There were repercussions for Preach and Coop’s ill-considered decision to lie about the shooting all those months ago.
A lot of that ended up with poor Billy just trying to get Preach solid. Instead, Grace and other members of the search committee pointed to Preach’s arrest as another example of Billy’s lousy decision-making.
Luckily, Coop found the best possible attorney for Preach: Laura.
Laura explained to Preach what he was dealing with. Someone who was arrested had video of Preach shooting Mo that did not clearly show Mo shooting Coop.
Realizing his luck was finally running out, Preach decided to confess to Amina that he shot Mo and not Coop. At least Amina would have Coop outside to take care of her.
Amina took Coop’s confession about as badly as expected and charged at him.
That was before Coop explained what kind of man Coop is to Amina, and Amina realized how much she had overreacted.
Not only did Coop clear Preach in his daughter’s eyes, but she also gave Laura the testimony she needed to legally exonerate him.
Laura did a masterful job of proving what happened the night of the shooting, pretty much getting a slap on the wrist for Preach for a probation violation.
Now Laura has a new client, Coop, who faces charges of obstruction of justice. How about a defense that she was so heavily drugged she didn’t know what she was saying? That could work.
Preach came out of prison to do penance. Luckily, Preach’s legend grew during the art show as Billy, Jabari and eventually Amina praised him.
It was enough to persuade Preach to return to the place of his greatest shame to tutor the students of South Crenshaw.
Being right about Preach ultimately did little to help Billy in his campaign for permanent principal.
At first glance, longtime careers counselor Regina was probably a better choice for the principal. She has also always lived in Crenshaw.
It doesn’t seem fair that Crenshaw native Billy, who does bougie and moves on to Beverly Hills, was brought up against him. It’s also Grace’s concern that he’s just waiting for the next good offer from college or the pros.
No one seems to realize that Billy has changed as interim director. He is now doing something more substantial than just being a football coach. And he likes that feeling.
Spencer also nailed Grace’s motivation. She has a bad case of Empty Nest Syndrome and she takes it out on Billy without realizing it. Whoever is in charge needs to find a spot for Grace to channel some of the energy she always has.
Layla also addressed misplaced concerns after J.P. had decided to withdraw from production.
It was totally out of character for J.P. to just hand five artists over to Layla. No wonder she thought he was going to die.
It ended up being a much simpler answer. JP had met someone his own age, two words rarely associated with him, and he wanted to spend more time with her after decades of long hours in the studio. That makes sense, doesn’t it?
Layla’s guru was that jerk Jordan, after all. He gave Layla a much needed sense of calm. And his explanation of the seasons of love was just bizarre. Here’s hoping these two can just stay in a platonic relationship.
Stranger still, J.J. is now Spencer’s Zen-Gate, helping him find a new method to reshape his body in ways Spence had never considered before. This extra flexibility will come in handy.
