Muskogee Man Pleads Guilty To Strangling Wife, Hiding Her Body

Friday, January 6, 2012 at 10:37 am

From: News on 6

A Muskogee man pleaded guilty Thursday to killing his wife and burying her body in a manhole behind his mother’s home in 1999.

Jeff Grannon, 57, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Carol Grannon following his February 2011 arrest.

Carol Grannon was 28 and a mother to four children, the youngest of whom was just 8 when she disappeared in 1999.

Carol’s children were in the courtroom, Jeff Grannon admitted. They heard all the horrifying details about how their mother was killed, but one question was never answered.

“Surreal because it’s been prayed and prayed and prayed for all these years,” said Laura Walker, a friend.

Jeff Grannon admitted in court Thursday that he strangled his wife Carol with a zip tie and encased her body in concrete in a manhole near his mother’s home in 1999.

Sheriff’s Detective Eddie Walker is Carol’s ex-husband and the father of two of their four children.

“It was an emotional day, especially for the kids because it was the first time they actually had to sit in the same room with Jeff Grannon,” said Eddie Walker.

Jeff Grannon’s son led investigators to the manhole after he was arrested in a drug attack last February. He told authorities his father killed Carol and hid the evidence.

Jeff Grannon told the same story in court – in front of Carol’s sons and daughters.

“He once told one of the girls he’d been in jail before and wasn’t scared of it, and she said to him, ‘Well, I guess you’re going home then,'” Walker said.

Before the lead that led to her body, police and deputies never stopped looking for Carol. Walker says he suspected Grannon all along and confronted him 10 years ago.

“I looked him in the eye and I said to him, ‘I think you did that and I almost know you did that and one day I’m going to find out,” said Eddie Walker, the victim’s ex-husband , with whom he works in the sheriff’s office.

“And he said, ‘Well, whatever you’re thinking.'”

Now Carol’s family finally knows what happened to her all these years later.

“The only thing I think the kids regret is that they couldn’t get it out of him why he did it,” Walker said.

You may never know Grannon’s motive.

Jeff Grannon was sentenced to life imprisonment with probation. It’s still unclear if prosecutors plan to press charges against his son, who was a teenager when he helped bury Carol’s body.
