Linda Schaneman Obituary

OBITUARY

Linda Jeanette Schanemann

April 28, 1954 – November 6, 2013

IN THE CARE OF Dugan-Kramer Funeral Home & Crematorium

Linda Jeanette Schaneman died on November 6, 2013 at the Golden Living. At her request, no funeral service will take place; cremation has taken place. Memorial can be made as a tribute to the family to help with any expenses related to their multiple sclerosis. Linda was born on April 28, 1954 to Bernard and Rowena Benzel of Gering. She grew up in Klein. She was a member of the 1972 Gering High School Senior Class and first chair flutist in the band. She has been an avid Gering Bulldogs fan all her life. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Gering Zion Church and later became a member of First Congregational Church in Torrington. In 1973 she married Bernard Fritton. From this union three children were born. After the dissolution of her first marriage, Linda married Marty Schaneman in 2001. They shared a passion for NASCAR and Husker Football, it was a match made in heaven. When Marty first started working for Schwan’s, Linda often drove the route with him. They loved the Harrison area so much that they dreamed of buying a retirement home in the area. She loved the friendliness of the Harrison people, who were always quick to inquire about Linda’s health. Linda was initially employed as a lockwood locksmith and made many lifelong friends during her time there. She also worked at Regional West Medical Center and then at the Veteran’s Home until MS forced her to retire from the workforce. Linda was a very spirited woman. She had a sharp wit, an endearingly colorful sense of humor and had perfected the art of the sarcastic remark. Her heart was as big as Texas (which might be a poor comparison given how much she hated the Longhorns). She was a good friend, very kind and generous. She loved her friends and family and was often responsible for nice surprises when they were least expected. MS is a very terrible disease and gradually took Linda’s freedoms, but she never complained about her struggles, instead she chose to stay positive and fight every step of the way. She could often be heard saying, “I have MS, but it doesn’t have me.” Linda is survived by parents Bernard and Rowena Benzel. Husband Marty Schaneman, daughter Bernalda Fritton (Robert Joyce) of Wantagh, NY, sons Brandon Fritton (Rachel Rojas) of Gering and Brodie Fritton (Heather Fritton) of Denver, and stepson Alex Schaneman of Newcastle, Wyoming, and their grandchildren: Adrian Fritton, Raulie Rojas, Cyrus Fritton and Teagan Fritton. She is also survived by mother-in-law Elsie Schaneman of Torrington, brother-in-law Floyd Schaneman and family of Laramie, Wyo., Baily and Bonnie Schaneman and family of Torrington, and sister-in-law Val and Craig Grant and Torrington family. She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents and father-in-law Alex Schaneman.
