WWE

Arndt had no prior wrestling experience prior to being signed by WWE. From the age of 16 he trained with Joe DeFranco at DeFranco’s Training Systems gym in Wyckoff, New Jersey.

By coincence, WWE manager Triple H also began training with DeFranco; A lifelong admirer of professional wrestling, Arndt created a compilation film of himself doing various exercises and cutting a promo.

When DeFranco showed Triple H the footage, Arndt was offered a trial with WWE, which led to his signing. Arndt was signed by WWE in August 2012 and began using the ring name Eric Anthony. When he debuted as a wrestler in the WWE development system NXT in November 2012, he was given the ring name Enzo Amore.

Teaming with Big Cass (2013–2017)

Amore made his NXT television debut as a villain on May 22, 2013 when he was crushed by Mason Ryan. Amore formed an alliance with Colin Cassady, who also lost to Ryan on the July 3 episode of NXT, and they dubbed themselves “the most real guys in the room.”

Despite Amore and Cassady working together, Ryan defeated them in back-to-back singles matches in July but lost a handicap match to them. After their fight with Ryan, Amore and Cassady entered into a feud with Alexander Rusev, Scott Dawson and their manager Sylvester Lefort, who eventually turned face.

On the September 25 episode of NXT, Amore and Cassady competed in a gauntlet match for a future shot at the NXT Tag Team Championship; They started the fight by defeating CJ Parker and Tyler Breeze, then Rusev and Dawson before losing to The Ascension (Konnor and Viktor).

Amore broke his leg while training in November 2013. According to Simon Gotch, a fellow wrestler also signed to NXT at the time, “He injured his own leg trying to break a bracelet. On the June 26, 2014 episode of NXT, Amore returned to save Cassady from an attack by Sylvester Lefort and Marcus Louis.

Amore and Cassady competed in the NXT Tag Team Championship tournament in early August. They defeated Jason Jordan and Tye Dillinger in the first round but were edged out in the second round by The Vaudevillains (Aen English and Simon Gotch).

Lefort and Louis then rekindled their feud with Amore and Cassady by attacking and shaving Amore’s beard. As a result, Amore challenged Lefort to a match at NXT TakeOver: Fatal 4-Way with the loser’s hair as a loss, which Amore won, but Lefort ran away, causing his companion Louis to lose his hair and eyebrows. Amore and Cassady then formed an alliance with Carmella making her debut.

Carmella’s hairdressing job had been accentally lost due to the duo’s mistake, prompting her to seek a position as a wrestler. Carmella made her in-ring television debut on October 16, 2014 on NXT.

Amore and Cassady defeated the Lucha Dragons on the March 11, 2015 edition of NXT to become the number one contender for the NXT Tag Team Championship. At NXT TakeOver: Unstoppable, Amore and Cassady battled Blake and Murphy for the title, but lost due to interference from Alexa Bliss.

Amore and Cassady began a feud with Dash and Dawson in December, challenging them at NXT TakeOver: London and Roadblock for the NXT Tag Team Championship, but were unsuccessful. At The Raw following WrestleMania 32, Amore and Cassady debuted on the main roster, confronting The Dudley Boyz.

A week later on SmackDown, Amore and Cassady defeated The Ascension in a tournament to become the top contenders for the WWE Tag Team Championship. The team defeated The Dudley Boyz in the semifinals of the following week’s Raw Tag Team Tournament to advance to the finals.

They faced the Vaudevillains in the finals at Payback, but the match ended in a no contest after Amore suffered a legitimate concussion during the fight. At Money in the Bank, Enzo and Cass battled The New Day, The Vaudevillains, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson and The Vaudevillains in a fatal four-way tag team match for the WWE Tag Team Championship, the The New Day won.

On the July 4 edition of Raw, Enzo and Cass assisted John Cena, who was being attacked by The Club (AJ Styles, Luke Gallows, and Karl Anderson), thus interfering in Cena’s feud with The Club. Enzo and Cass teamed up with Cena to defeat The Club in a six-man tag team match on Battleground.

Enzo and Cass were recruited by WWE to the Raw brand on July 19, 2016. Enzo and Cass then feuded with Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens, culminating in a loss to Jericho and Owens at SummerSlam.

On the November 7 episode of Raw, Enzo and Cass joined Team Raw for the Survivor Series Tag Team Elimination Match, which Team Raw won against Team Smac.

On the November 21 episode of Raw, after Amore was locked out of the dressing room naked by Cass as a practical joke and encountered Lana in the hallway, her husband Rusev challenged Amore later that night, to which Amore promptly lost.

Lana called Amore to her hotel room on the December 5 edition of Raw after Amore interceded for her after seeing her and Rusev arguing backstage. When Rusev attacked Amore in the hotel room later that night, it turned out to be a trap.

In the weeks that followed, Enzo and Cass feuded with Rusev and Jinder Mahal. On January 29, 2017, Amore entered the Royal Rumble match as number 27 but was eliminated by Brock Lesnar.

At WrestleMania 33, Enzo and Cass faced reigning champions Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, Cesaro and Sheamus, and the returning The Hardy Boyz in a fatal four-way ranked match for the Raw Tag Team Championship, which The Hardy Boyz won.

The following night on Raw, Amore and Cass were defeated by Cesaro and Sheamus in a tag team fight to determine the number one contender for the Raw Tag Team Championship. Amore was found unconscious backstage on the May 22 broadcast of Raw after being hit from behind by an unknown assailant. The following week he was found unconscious again.

Big Cass then blamed The Revival, who had been sighted in the background after the attacks. Cass was spotted dejected backstage in the same vein as Amore on the June 5 episode of Raw.

Cass later claimed he wasn’t cleared to wrestle, so Amore teamed up with Big Show to win a fight against Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson. Cass was found unconscious backstage the following week. He stated the perpetrator must have used a massive fist and involved Big Show, who denied being the attacker.

On the June 19 edition of Raw, general manager Kurt Angle attempted to entify the attacker before surveillance footage uncovered by Corey Graves revealed that Cass staged his own attack to avo suspicion. Cass explained this and admitted his dissatisfaction with his time working with Amore.

Cass then attacked Amore, effectively disbanding the team. On the June 26 episode of Raw, Amore called Cass into the ring and the two appeared to reconcile; Nonetheless, Cass again attacked Amore fiercely on stage.

Cass defeated Amore at the Great Balls of Fire pay-per-view. Cass defeated Big Show at SummerSlam while Amore hung over the ring in a shark cage. Amore escaped from the shark cage during the game, but was attacked by Cass shortly after.

The following night on the August 21 episode of Raw, Amore challenged Cass to a street fight, which he won after the referee stopped the fight due to Cass’s actual knee injury.

Ex-WWE star Enzo Amore unrecognisable after epic body transformation

Former WWE wrestler Enzo Amore is in phenomenal shape four years after being fired from the company.

The 35-year-old star has continued to wrestle under the nZo moniker since his exit in 2018 and will face off against legendary duo The Hardy Boyz next month with his tag team partner Big Cass – now known as IMPACT Wrestling’s W. Morrissey.

Before leaving WWE, Amore was part of the now-defunct cruiserweight division at 205 Live, and he looks a whole different man today after properly massaging himself.

This week he showed off his toned physique between workouts at the gym and it’s clear he’s been struggling to get in phenomenal shape.

He’s been keeping fans updated on his progress lately and his supporters have been blown away by the progress.

“Hard work pays off #real1,” one commented, while another added, “Bro bouldering shoulders!”

Enzo has been massaging since his WWE days (Image: WWE)

nZo and W. Morrissey first teamed up on NXT in 2013, when the pair’s charismatic band – who described themselves as “the most real guys in the room” – resonated with fans.

While towering star Morrissey was the muscle, Amore was the mouthpiece and they proved popular with viewers.

They were named to the main roster three years later, but by 2017 they had been split up and sent in different directions.

Amore had a decent run, including a stint as Cruiserweight Champion at 205 Live, before his release in 2018.

The duo’s match against the Hardy Boyz is part of Matt and Jeff’s reunion tour following the latter’s WWE release late last year, while it will be Amore and Cass’ first fight together in almost five years.

Since his own exit in the summer of 2018, Cass has worked hard on his own well being and in fantastic shape and is currently enjoying a successful run in the main event scene at IMPACT.

Eric Arndt (born December 8, 1986) is an American professional wrestler who performs on the independent circuit under the ring name Real1. He is best known for his time in WWE, where he performed under the ring name Enzo Amore.

He is best known in WWE for his partnership with Big Cass, with whom he worked from 2013-2017. Together they won the 2015 NXT Year-End Award for Tag Team of the Year. He was later transferred to 205 Live Brand where he was a two-time Cruiserweight Champion. Since leaving WWE, he has also embarked on a rap music career, initially under the name Real1,[3] but now under the same name he uses on the independent circuit.

Early life[edit]

Arndt was born on December 8, 1986 in Hackensack, New Jersey[4].[2] He grew up in Waldwick, New Jersey, where he attended Julia A. Traphagen School, Crescent School, and Waldwick High School. He played football at Waldwick High.[4] Arndt continued his football career at Division III (NCAA) Salisbury University, playing linebacker and safety for the Sea Gulls from 2007-2009. Arndt eventually acquired a degree in journalism.[4] He formerly worked as a DJ and ticket salesman for the New York Jets,[5] as a piano transporter, and as a manager at Hooters.[4]

Professional wrestling career[edit]

WWE (2012–2018) [ edit ]

Early career (2012–2013) [ edit ]

Arndt had no prior wrestling experience before WWE signed him.[7] He had trained with Joe DeFranco at DeFranco’s Training Systems gym in Wyckoff, New Jersey since he was 16. By coincidence, WWE Manager Triple H also began training with DeFranco; Arndt, a lifelong fan of professional wrestling, made a compilation video of himself doing various exercises and cutting a promo. When DeFranco showed Triple H the video, Arndt was given a tryout with WWE,[7] which ultimately led to his signature.[4] In August 2012, WWE signed Arndt, who then began using the ring name Eric Anthony. In November 2012, he was given the ring name Enzo Amore while debuting as a wrestler in the WWE development system NXT.

Collaboration with Big Cass (2013–2017) [ edit ]

On May 22, 2013, Amore debuted on NXT television as Heel and was described as a “stereotypical cocky Jersey Shore loudmouth” and an “oversized version of the man playing the part”, where he was crushed by Mason Ryan.[10] On the July 3 episode of NXT, Amore formed an alliance with Colin Cassady,[11] who also lost to Ryan,[12] and they dubbed themselves “the realest guys in the room.”[11] Despite Amore and Cassady’s alliance, Ryan easily defeated them in back-to-back singles matches in July but lost to them in a handicap match. After the feud with Ryan, Amore and Cassady feuded with Alexander Rusev, Scott Dawson and their manager Sylvester Lefort, turning faces in the process. On the September 25 episode of NXT, Amore and Cassady engaged in a fight for a future shot at the NXT Tag Team Championship. They started the match by first defeating CJ Parker and Tyler Breeze, then defeating Rusev and Dawson but losing to The Ascension (Konnor and Viktor). In November 2013, Amore broke his leg while training.[18] According to fellow wrestler Simon Gotch, who was also signed to NXT at the time, “Amore broke his own leg trying to counteract a wristlock. He blamed the loose canvas.”[19]

Amore at a live NXT show in February 2015

Amore returned on the June 26, 2014 episode of NXT and saved Cassady from an attack by Sylvester Lefort and Marcus Louis. In early August, Amore and Cassady competed in the NXT Tag Team Championship tournament. They defeated Jason Jordan and Tye Dillinger in the first round but were eliminated by The Vaudevillains (Aiden English and Simon Gotch) in the second round. Lefort and Louis then renewed their rivalry with Amore and Cassady by attacking them and shaving Amore’s beard. As a result, Amore challenged Lefort to a match with the loser’s hair for forfeit at NXT TakeOver: Fatal 4-Way, which Amore won, but Lefort ran away, causing his partner Louis to lose his hair and eyebrows. Amore and Cassady then formed an alliance with debutante Carmella. The duo had accidentally cost Carmella her hairdressing job, leading her to demand a job as a wrestler. Carmella made her television debut in the ring on the October 16, 2014 episode of NXT.[26] On the March 11, 2015 episode of NXT, Amore and Cassady defeated the Lucha Dragons to become the number one contenders for the NXT Tag Team Championship. At NXT TakeOver: Unstoppable, Amore and Cassady faced Blake and Murphy for the title after Alexa Bliss interfered. In December, Amore and Cassady began a feud with Dash and Dawson, unsuccessfully challenging them for the NXT Tag Team Championship at NXT TakeOver: London and Roadblock.

On Raw after WrestleMania 32, Amore and Cassady debuted on the main roster, confronting The Dudley Boyz. A week later on SmackDown, Amore and Cassady defeated The Ascension in a tournament to determine the number one contender for the WWE Tag Team Championship.[28] The team defeated The Dudley Boyz on the following week’s Raw in the semifinals of the tag team tournament to advance to the finals. In the finals, they faced the Vaudevillains at Payback, with the match ending in a no contest after Amore suffered a legitimate concussion during the match. At Money in the Bank, Enzo and Cass faced The New Day, The Vaudevillains and Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson in a fatal four-way tag team match for the WWE Tag Team Championship, in which The New Day claimed their kept title. On the July 4 episode of Raw, Enzo and Cass aided John Cena, who was being attacked by The Club (AJ Styles, Luke Gallows, and Karl Anderson), by interfering in the feud between Cena and The Club. On the battlefield, Enzo and Cass teamed up with Cena to defeat The Club in a six-man tag team match.

Amore in May 2017

On July 19, Enzo and Cass were drafted to the Raw brand in the 2016 WWE Draft.[30] Enzo and Cass then feuded with Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens, culminating at SummerSlam where the two lost to Jericho and Owens. On the November 7 episode of Raw, Enzo and Cass joined Team Raw for the Survivor Series Tag Team Elimination match at Survivor Series, where Team Raw defeated Team SmackDown. On the November 21 episode of Raw, her husband Rusev challenged Amore to a match later that night after Amore was locked out of the dressing room naked by Cass as a joke and met Lana in the hallway where Amore was quickly defeated. On the December 5 episode of Raw, after Amore championed Lana after seeing her and Rusev argue backstage, Lana invited Amore to her hotel room. This was revealed to be a trap later that night when Rusev attacked Amore in the hotel room. In the weeks that followed, Enzo and Cass feuded with Rusev and Jinder Mahal.[31] On January 29, 2017, Amore competed in the Royal Rumble match and entered at number 27 but was eliminated by Brock Lesnar. At WrestleMania 33, Enzo and Cass faced off against defending champions Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, Cesaro and Sheamus, and the returning The Hardy Boyz in a fatal four-way ranked match for the Raw Tag Team Championship, out of which The Hardy Boyz was victorious emerged. The following night on Raw, Amore and Cass were defeated by Cesaro and Sheamus in a tag team match to determine the number one contender for the Raw Tag Team Championship.

On the May 22 episode of Raw, Amore was found unconscious backstage after being attacked from behind by an unknown assailant, and again the following week. Big Cass further accused The Revival, who was seen in the background after the attacks. On the June 5 episode of Raw, Cass was found backstage knocked out in the same manner as Amore. Cass later claimed he wasn’t cleared to wrestle, so Amore teamed with Big Show in a match against Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, which they won. The following week Cass was found backstage unconscious again. He claimed the attacker had a giant fist and blamed Big Show, who denied being the attacker. On the June 19 episode of Raw, general manager Kurt Angle attempted to unmask the attacker before security footage found by Corey Graves revealed that Cass faked his own attack to deflect suspicion. Cass admitted this and expressed his frustration during his time as a team with Amore. Cass then attacked Amore, disbanding the team. On the June 26 episode of Raw, Amore called Cass to the ring and the two seemingly reconciled; However, Cass viciously attacked Amore again on stage. At the Great Balls of Fire pay-per-view, Amore was defeated by Cass. At SummerSlam, Cass defeated Big Show while Amore was suspended above the ring in a shark cage. During the game, Amore escaped from the shark cage but was quickly attacked by Cass. The next night on the August 21 episode of Raw, Amore challenged Cass to a street fight, which he won after the referee called off the match after Cass suffered a legitimate knee injury.

Cruiserweight Champion (2017–2018) [ edit ]

On the August 22 episode of 205 Live, Amore made his cruiserweight debut and began a feud with cruiserweight champion Neville. On the September 5 episode of 205 Live, Amore earned a title shot against Neville, winning a fatal five-way elimination match also attended by Cedric Alexander, The Brian Kendrick, Gran Metalik, and Tony Nese. At No Mercy on September 24, Amore defeated Neville with a low punch to win the Cruiserweight Championship. This decision was made due to the lack of success of 205 Live; Vince McMahon thought a “strong” character like Amore would enhance the brand and make him core to the show. The following night on Raw, Amore ended the show with a “championship celebration” during which he insulted the cruiserweight division, stating that he had made 205 Live “relevant” and that the 205 Live roster was “jealous” of his accomplishments and themselves flipped for the first time since 2013. He also showed a clause signed by general manager Kurt Angle that they would lose their title chances if any cruiserweight touched him. The week after, Amore revealed another paper clause on Raw that said any cruiserweight who tried to touch him would be fired. Following this, Kalisto was introduced as the newest member of the Cruiserweight division and attacked Amore. On the October 9 episode of Raw, Amore lost the cruiserweight championship to Kalisto in a lumberjack match. However, he regained the title in the rematch at TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs on October 22 via an illegal thumb shot in the eye behind the referee’s back. At the Survivor Series pre-show on November 19, Amore successfully defended the title against Kalisto. This was his final WWE pay-per-view appearance. In early January 2018, Amore was unable to compete due to flu.[39]

Amore was suspended from WWE on January 22, 2018 for his sexual assault allegations (see below).[40] As a result, his scheduled title defense against Cedric Alexander at the Royal Rumble was cancelled. The next day, Amore was fired from WWE and the title was vacated. After his release, Amore retired from professional wrestling to focus on his music career.

On November 18, 2018, Arndt attended the Survivor Series event. Standing in his seat, he caused a disturbance and was eventually removed from the venue by security and banned from future events at the Staples Center.

Ring of Honor (2019) [ edit ]

Arndt performed alongside former tag team partner William Morrissey at the G1 Supercard at Madison Square Garden. After a tag team match involving Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro wrestling talent, the two jumped over the barricade and attacked several wrestlers. The cameras broadcast cropped from the incident to show a legitimate outside attack, but it was later reported that the angle was an edited shoot. However, after the angle, the duo were not booked for any more shows and the incident was never mentioned again.

Independent circuit (2019–present) [ edit ]

On June 15, Arndt debuted for Northeast Wrestling (NEW) under the ring name nZo, accompanying Morrissey, now known as CaZXL, in his match against Jon Moxley. During the match, nZo attempted to intervene but was attacked by Moxley. Caz would lose the match.[50] At NEW’s “Prison Break” on August 16, nZo played his first match since January 2018, defeating Brian Pillman Jr.[51]

In February 2020, he appeared at QPW’s SuperSlam II against Brian Pillman Jr. He was supposed to perform at SuperSlam III in October 2020 but didn’t.

He released a second song titled “Bury Me a G” on June 7. On November 18, under the nZo moniker, Arndt released an album entitled Rosemary’s Baby Pt. 1: Happy Birthday.[55] Arndt’s second album Born in New Jersey was released on August 15, 2019.[56] On March 31, 2020, Arndt released Certified G Series: Zo’s Exotic Quarantine Music, the first mixtape under the Real1 Entertainment label.

Other media[edit]

Arndt is a playable character in WWE 2K16, WWE 2K17 and WWE 2K18 as Enzo Amore.[58][59][60]

Personal life[edit]

Prior to her employment with WWE, Arndt met William Morrissey when they played basketball together at the Cage of Manhattan, New York for almost ten years before reuniting at NXT in July 2013.[5] Arndt’s friendship with Morrissey soured in August 2017 after Arndt publicly criticized Morrissey for not completing his game on August 21 after suffering a knee injury. The two have since reconciled.[62]

Allegation of sexual assault[edit]

On January 22, 2018, the Phoenix Police Department confirmed that Arndt is under investigation for an alleged sexual assault that was reported to authorities in October 2017.[63][64] Later that day, Arndt was suspended by WWE for violating their zero-tolerance policy on sexual harassment and sexual assault. WWE released a statement that he would remain suspended until the matter was resolved.[40] In a January 23 interview, a woman accused him of raping her in a hotel room in Phoenix, Arizona, on October 19, 2017.[65] Arndt was fired from WWE the same day for failing to notify WWE of the investigation. Arndt, through his attorney, replied that he was not even aware of the investigation until it was made public.[66][67][68] On Twitter, Arndt “completely and unequivocally” rejects the allegations made against him.[69] On May 16, 2018, the Phoenix Police Department dropped its investigation due to insufficient evidence.[66]
