HomaBay County is located in the southern part of the Nyanza Region, on the southern shore of Lake Victoria. Homa Bay County covers an area of 3,183.3 km² with a population of approximately 1.3 million people.
Homa-Bay County borders five counties: Migori County to the south, Kisii County and Nyamira County to the east, and Kericho County and Kisumu County to the northeast. It is accessible by sea transportation, road and air. The Kabunde Airstrip has just been refurbished and opened to commercial flights.
The county’s headquarters – the town of Homa Bay – is about 105 km south of Kisumu and about 420 km southwest of Nairobi.

Homa Bay County is located between 0o15′ south and 0o52′ south latitude and between 34o east and 35o east longitude. The county covers an area of 4,267.1 km², including the water area, which alone covers an area of 1,227 km². The county is located in southwest Kenya on Lake Victoria, where it borders Kisumu and Siaya counties to the north, Kisii and Nyamira counties to the east, Migori county to the south, and Lake Victoria and the Republic of Uganda to the west.

The county is dived into two main relief regions, namely the lakese lowlands and the highland plateau with a series of rivers namely Awach Kibuon, Awach Tende, Maugo, Kuja, Rangwe and Riana, most of which originate from Kisii and Nyamira counties. The climate is equatorial inland, with temperatures ranging from a mean annual minimum of 17.1 °C to a mean maximum of 34.8 °C, with rainfall ranging between 250 mm and 700 mm per year.

Welcome to Kisii County Website
Kisii County is one of Kenya’s 47 counties. It is bordered by Nyamira counties to the northeast, Narok counties to the south, and Homabay and Migori counties to the west.
The county lies between 00 30′ and 100 south and longitude 340 38′ and 350 east.
It covers an area of 1,302 km2 and has 1,152,282 inhabitants according to the 2009 census.
Politically, the county is organized into 9 constituencies namely: Bobasi, Bonchari, Bomachoge Chache, Bomachoge Borabu, Kitutu Chache North, Kitutu Chache South, Nyaribari Chache, Nyaribari Masaba and South Mugirango.
The most notable features of the county include: Hills, Sameta (1970 m), Nyamasibi (2,170 m), Kiong’anyo (1,710 m), Kiamwasi (1,785 m), Kiongongi, Kiombeta, Sombogo, Nyanchwa and Kegochi Hills. The general slope of the country is east to west.

The county assembly is the legislative arm of county government responsible for formulating laws that regulate behavior and activities within the county and provides oversight. The constitution establishes the Borough Assembly, which consists of members elected by the registered voters of the boroughs of each municipality forming a single constituency.
The Migori District Assembly was established after the promulgation of the Constitution of Kenya in 2010. The first assembly began in April 2013. During this time, the District Assembly has made remarkable progress in fulfilling its mandate. Several laws have been enacted, some of which have improved the framework for oversight of the county executive branch.

The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Homa Bay Campus was established in 1979 to train Enrolled Community Health Nurses (ECN). In 1998, ECN was promoted to a Diploma in Community Health Nursing on campus. This led to the phasing out of pre-employment training for enrolled nurses in 2002 and the introduction of other diploma level programmes.
