The Rebel Melanie Elizabeth Wilson (born Melanie Elizabeth Bownds, 2 March 1980) is an Australian actress, comedian, author, singer and producer. After graduating from the Australian Theater for Young People in 2003, Wilson appeared as Toula in the SBS comedy series Pizza (2003–2007, 2019) and later in the sketch comedy series The Wedge (2006–2007). Wilson was born on March 2, 1980[1] in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.[4] Her parents are professional dog handlers.[5][6][7] Wilson grew up in the suburbs of Kenthurst, Parramatta, and Castle Hill.[8] She attended Tara Anglican School for Girls.[2][9][10] She graduated from high school in 1997 with a grade of 99.3, including second place in the country in food technology.[11][12] Wilson joined the debating team, and a teacher encouraged her to attend the Tournament of Minds, which she credits with helping her come out of her shell. Wilson worked at a Castle Hill movie theater when she was young, but quit after guests recognized her after the screening of her first film, Fat Pizza.

Pitch Perfect and Jojo Rabbit star Rebel Wilson has spoken out for the first time after it was revealed a publication plans to write a story about their same-sex relationship.
Wilson wrote in an Instagram post on Friday that she had found her “Disney princess,” but a column in the Sydney Morning Herald the next day admitted they contacted the star’s reps earlier in the week to finalize the story Weekend found it “underwhelming” that Wilson had “decided to look at the story.”
This led to much commentary online criticizing the Herald for attempting to “out” Wilson – by writing about a queer person’s sexuality without personally acknowledging it himself – which is similarly damaging Speculations about a person’s sexuality.

Pushes of support for the actress included a tweet from Australian TV journalist Kate Doak condemning the Herald column. It was her tweet that Wilson responded to.
“Thanks for your comments,” she wrote, “it was a very difficult situation but I tried to handle it with grace.”

The column has since been removed and replaced with a link to a new article which “regrets that Rebel has found this difficult” and understands how the email was viewed by her and her team as a “threat” to the star’s coming out .
“The framing [of the email] was a mistake,” added columnist Andrew Hornery. “The Herald and I will be doing things differently from now on, to ensure we always consider the added layer of complexity people face when it comes to their sexuality.”

Wilson opened up about their relationship a month before the post, though she didn’t name partner Ramona Agruma or reveal she was dating another woman.

Following Wilson’s post, actor Hugh Sheridan explained that they were the one who brought Wilson and Agruma together.
