Daff was dealing marijuana and Thompson began collecting payments for him.[4]
Thompson began selling 8 to 10 pounds of cocaine a week while he was in high school. She and “Daff” married in 1980[4] and began selling crack cocaine. Thompson’s drug business was booming, she and her husband bought a home in Encino, California, and had a son in 1982. When “Daff” was murdered,[4] Drug Enforcement Administration agents who observed Thompson thought she was going to stop dealing drugs. In 1984 she began to grow her business again by recruiting distributors in the US and for a time began sourcing the cocaine directly from producers in Colombia. At age 26, she opened a hair distribution business (for wigs and hair extensions), which Thompson said was a legitimate business but authorities say was used to launder drug profits.[4]
When Percy “Cheese” Bratton, her business partner, was arrested with pounds of cocaine in his car, he made a deal with investigators and provided the evidence needed to charge Thompson. Thompson tried to avoid arrest but was arrested at age 31 at her son’s 6th grade graduation. Thompson was charged with five counts of conspiracy to distribute cocaine and money laundering. Thompson was charged, convicted and serving 12 of her 15-year sentence. During her time in prison, Thompson converted to Christianity and after her release began a Christian ministry called Second Chance Evangelical Ministries.
