S. Marcus Calloway S. Marcus Calloway passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family. A private funeral and family burial was held on Tuesday, January 4, followed by a public celebration of life in Atlanta. details shortly. Marcus was born on August 11, 1949 at Maxwell Airbase in Montgomery, Alabama. He grew up as the eldest of three children in a loving, close-knit family. From a young age, his parents instilled in him a strong work ethic and shortly after leaving he joined the family farming and fertilizer business. Marcus attended Autauga County High School where he excelled at football and wrestling. His excellence in football led to a full scholarship to Troy State University, where he was part of the 1968 National Championship winning team. After college, Marcus made his way to Atlanta where he began holding land titles at Fulton Title and Abstract Co. for Marguerite Bridges and the law firm of Troutman, Sanders, Lockerman and Ashmore. Marcus attended night law school at Woodrow Wilson College of Law and passed the bar exam in 1976. After settling in Atlanta, Marcus looked for an outlet for his sporting skills and found it in rugby, where he played for Old White and then the Atlanta Renegades. He developed a love for the game and the culture and embarked on several European tours – an experience he cherished forever. After law school, Marcus began his illustrious legal career, specializing in title law, under the tutelage of several eminent attorneys: Cliff Adams, Trammell McIntyre and Marty Rubin. Eventually he went into business for himself and founded S. Marcus Calloway, P.C. in 1977, which two decades later morphed into the Calloway Title & Escrow we know today. Calloway Title quickly became, and still is, a premier commercial property insurance agency in the Southeast. He has been recognized for his contributions to the industry throughout his career, including the 2013 George A. Pindar Award from the Real Property Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia for his contribution and achievements in the field of real estate law, and was named Honoree of the Year by the Southeast Land Title Association in 2017. Countless attorneys recognize Marcus’ mentoring as an integral part of their growth in the industry. Despite the rise of Calloway Title, Marcus fostered a down-to-earth culture that defined success through intellect and hard work. Throughout, Marcus’ love of rugby stayed with him, and in 2017 he decided that Atlanta needed a world-class rugby team. With RugbyATL, Marcus brought Major League Rugby to Georgia. Under Marcus’ ownership and despite the nagging Covid closures, RugbyATL won the Eastern Conference Championship in 2021. While Marcus’ passion for law and sport has lasted throughout his life, his greatest love has been his family. Marcus never missed an opportunity to tell his wife and three daughters how much he loved them and supported them unconditionally. He would tell them every chance he got, either in a low whisper goodnight or in a booming, singing song like he did at every family gathering. Marcus is preceded in death by his parents, Sidney Clyde Calloway and Ila Faye Calloway, and sister, Mary-Ann Posey (Rickie). He is survived by his wife Clea Rachel Calloway, children Amanda Faye Calloway-Mercer (Kevin), Sidney Amelia Calloway-Roberts (Brett), Alyssa Ruth Calloway, brother George Clifford Calloway (Diane), and niece Capiz Calloway (Forrest Hasbrook). ). His generous heart extended beyond the confines of the family to many others who call him mentor and friend. He was given the cherished nickname “Dog” by his friends. Marcus attended Northside Christ Gospel Church in his early years. Marcus completed his elementary and secondary education at Tulsa Public Schools. Marcus was a fun-loving soul who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. The high point of his life was being Uncle Marcus. On April 26, 2016, in the 27th stage of his life, Marcus Anthony Calloway left this life for eternal life. His father preceded him in death.
