The University of Richmond on Wednesday rescinded its offer of admission to Adam Giaquinto, a 2020 graduate of the Morristown-Beard School who poked fun at police brutality victim George Floyd in a Snapchat video released over the weekend.
His MBS colleague, Gridiron star Nate Panza, was kicked off the Cornell University football team on Tuesday for using the N-word in the same video.
Colgate University also withdrew its admissions from Sarah Laud, another recent Morristown-Beard graduate, over a TikTok video she posted that disparaged African Americans.
Giaquinto’s “offensive and racially charged video” does not reflect the University of Richmond’s “values or commitment to a thriving and inclusive community,” the university tweeted.
“The University of Richmond remains firmly committed to fostering a thriving, inclusive community and to our enduring values of diversity, inclusivity and equity,” the school said.
Attempts to reach Giaquinto, Laud and Panza were unsuccessful. In a statement to the Cornell Daily Sun, Panza apologized and asked for a second chance.
Giaquinto received a Founder’s Award at Morristown-Beard and took part in an Out of Darkness Walk to raise awareness for suicide prevention. Morris Township Prep School has removed articles about Giaquinto and Panza from its website.
Principal Peter Caldwell told the MBS community Sunday that such videos were “unacceptable… and hurtful” and unrepresentative of the institution, which dates back to 1891. A task force will re-examine the school’s diversity programs and policies, he said.

Two graduates from a prestigious New Jersey private school had their college admissions revoked and another was kicked out of a university football team after viral videos showed them mocking George Floyd, using racial slurs and making fun of African Americans.
Adam Giaquinto, Nathan Panza and a third unidentified student were scheduled to begin their freshman years at the University of Richmond, Cornell University and Colgate next fall after graduating from Morristown-Beard School.
But the unidentified woman and Giaquinto were informed that their assumptions had been revoked while Panza lost his spot on Cornell’s soccer team.

Giaquinto, Panza and a third unidentified student were scheduled to begin their freshman years at the University of Richmond, Cornell University and Colgate, respectively, next fall after graduating from Morristown-Beard School (above).
All three are graduates of Morristown-Beard, a private high school that charges students an annual tuition of around $44,000.
Two videos — one featuring Panza and Giaquinto together and the other showing the unidentified students — went viral, sparking online petitions demanding the three universities withdraw their admissions.
MBS released a statement this week condemning the “inappropriate and unacceptable behavior of a few individuals whose actions do not represent the MBS community.”
“Our school’s policies do not tolerate racism or discrimination of any kind,” the statement said.
“This unfortunate incident is a reminder of the work that still needs to be done by us as a school and as a nation.”
Around 1 a.m. Sunday, a video surfaced on Snapchat of Panza and Giaquinto apparently smoking and drinking while hanging out with two other friends.
The existence of the video was first reported by TMZ.

Giaquinto, cell phone in hand, records while Panza makes a racial slur and reference to George Floyd, the 46-year-old black man who died in Minneapolis police custody on May 25.
Giaquinto repeats the bow while the other teenagers laugh.
The video quickly went viral. Shortly thereafter, Panza, a running back from Morristown, New Jersey, was unloaded on the college football team, The Cornell Daily Sun reported.
Panza signed a letter of intent on February 5, pledging to play for Cornell. He was a star football player in high school and earned All-Morris County honors after rushing for 1,200 yards and scoring 17 touchdowns last season.
When Panza signed his letter of intent to play at Cornell, MBS published an article on its website announcing the recruitment.
But that article has since been deleted.
Now there are growing calls online for Cornell to withdraw its acceptance of Panza altogether.
Cornell’s athletic director Adam Noel told TMZ that Panza would not fit for Big Red.
“After watching it, head coach David Archer made the decision to withdraw the individual’s offer to join the team in the fall,” says Noel.
“There is no place for that behavior at Cornell Athletics.”
The University of Richmond released a statement on Wednesday announcing it would not accept Giaquinto
“Video was taken of me saying a word that is offensive and hurtful,” Panza said in a statement he gave to the Cornell campus newspaper, asking the Ivy League school for a second chance.
“The word has a long history of cruelty to the black community and is just plain wrong.
“I am heartbroken, I have hurt people; that I know and that I don’t know.
“I take full responsibility for my actions.”
Panza added, “I plan to do more research on the issues of racism and injustice in America because I want to be part of the solution, not the problem.
“I can’t live with the label ‘racist’ and I will work every day for the rest of my life to prove it.
“It is my humble hope that I will emerge from this incident a better ally, a better friend, and a better person.”
“No word defines me as a man or a person, and I can only hope that the Cornell Community will give me the opportunity to make the appropriate amends and give me that second chance,” he said.
Panza is expected to begin his freshman year at the Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management at Cornell.
The University of Richmond in Virginia also announced on Wednesday that it revoked Giaquinto’s license.
“The University of Richmond yesterday revoked an offer of admission to an incoming student who posted an offensive and racially charged video on social media that does not reflect the university’s values or its commitment to a thriving and inclusive community,” it said in the explanation.
“The University of Richmond remains firmly committed to fostering a thriving, inclusive community and to our enduring values of diversity, inclusivity and equity,” the university said.
Later Sunday, another MBS graduate, the unidentified woman, posted a video on TikTok that soon went viral on Instagram.
MBS released a statement this week condemning the “inappropriate and unacceptable behavior of a few individuals whose actions do not represent the MBS community.”
It showed her searching “African Americans” on Google.
The video then zooms to the “Shopping” tab. She is then seen saying, “Get in the loser, we’re going shopping.”
This quote is a line from the popular 2004 film Mean Girls.
The caption in the video reads, “It’s a joke, please don’t approach me.”
An online petition called for Colgate University to revoke its acceptance.
“We immediately launched an investigation … and considered both its message and its potential impact,” Colgate President Brian Casey said in a statement released on the university’s website.
“As a result of that review, and consistent with our processes and our policies, the University has revoked our offer of admission to the individual who will not be joining our fellowship in the fall.”
Casey also addressed another racist video posted by a Colgate student, saying, “The level of ignorance displayed in these videos is appalling.”
“At a time when people around the world are rightfully outraged by the recent killings of George Floyd and countless other black men and women, and we see almost every institution in the country concerned with the nature and effects of systemic racism concerned, these videos show a level of cruelty that is staggering,” he said.
An online petition calling for its adoption to be revoked gathered nearly 2,300 signatures as of Friday afternoon.
Meanwhile, another online petition claims that three MBS students were captured in a video uploaded to social media, showing them singing the N-word.

The two videos prompted the New Jersey school to have its own reckoning with the race, according to NJ Advance Media.
Administrators sent a letter to current and former black students, asking them to share their experiences and do their part to help the institution become more “anti-racist.”
The school also plans to hire a “cultural competence consultant” – an officer who normally advises academic institutions to create a more welcoming atmosphere for diverse teachers and students.
According to NJ Advance Media, the school will send a letter to parents with recommendations for reform.

“It is shameful that these incidents at Morristown-Beard School have gone unspoken or unheard. We are deeply sorry…” they wrote.
The Snapchat video that sparked all of this was posted early Sunday morning.
It showed Nate Panza rushing for more than 1,100 yards and scoring 19 touchdowns at Morristown-Beard using the N-word and telling the person who was recording his high school classmate Adam Giaquinto not to release the video, according to the Cornell Daily Sun, which first reported the video and the identities of the people. Giaquinto also uses the n-word and references George Floyd in the video shared online by TMZ.
Cornell did not publicly identify Panza as a student in the video. However, when asked about Panza Wednesday, the Ivy League school confirmed they were watching the video and that the person in the video was kicked off the football team. The stories on the BlackatMBS Instagram account, most of which were published anonymously, describe black students going through uncomfortable moments, such as a debate in which students were labeled pro-slavery or anti-slavery. Another said the students referred to the bus that carried the most colored students as the “black bus.”
Morristown-Beard School did not respond to questions about a third video that social media has condemned as racist for depicting multiple girls repeatedly singing the N-word along with a song. A petition on Change.org identifies the students as students at the school.
In Wednesday’s letter, Caldwell and Fay set out several steps the school would take immediately.
The first is a survey that will be sent out to black students and alumni Thursday, seeking input on their experiences at the school and recommendations on how it can be a more anti-racist institution. The results will be shared with the community, the letter said.
Caldwell and Fay also said the school is hiring a cultural competency advisor — a term often used in academia to describe the goal of being able to better understand, appreciate, and interact with people from other cultures — to Forums to enable students, alumni, parents, faculty and staff to discuss the work that needs to be done.
The board of trustees will assemble a task force of board members, alumni, parents, faculty and students next week, the letter said.
“The task force will begin work immediately to identify resources, opportunities and external expertise as the school makes a long-term effort to become an inclusive and anti-racist community,” the letter said.
