20 of America’s top tribute acts are competing in E!’s new music competition series, Clash of the Cover Bands, for a chance at a big cash prize and a chance to appear on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
This week, contestant Adam Tucker gave his best performance of Tim McGraw in front of judges Meghan Trainor, Adam Lambert and Ester Dean.
Tucker is a Tim McGraw impersonator who performs in Las Vegas. The former football player became a fan of McGraw in 1992 and often covered McGraw’s songs when he was out with his college football team.
During the show, Tucker said he always wanted to pursue a music career, but that record companies would turn him away because he was too similar to Tim McGraw.
After his first performance, the judges encouraged Tucker to work on his vocals and sent him to meet with a vocal expert and a movement expert in hopes of improving before the official fight.
Now facing off against a clone of Keith Urban performing “Who Wouldn’t Wanna Be Me” and “Days Go By,” Tucker had his chance to wow the judges.
He took the stage to sing McGraw’s “Real Good Man” and “I Like It, I Love It” and was eventually crowned the winner.

Ahead of the show’s premiere, Queen frontman and former American Idol contestant Adam Lambert shared what he thinks makes the show so exciting.
“I find it really exciting because some of the impersonations are literally like doubles,” he told E! News. “I had friends who saw the teaser that was out there and there was a flash from a couple of artists and they were like, ‘Oh, did J.Lo come on the show?’ They didn’t get it. I thought, ‘No, no, no. That’s not her!” They said, “What?!” He continued, “I think people are going to be really, really intrigued by the resemblance of some of these people, both in the way they look and the way they perform, her sound. We just had a lot of fun. In addition, there really is something for everyone in the show. We have current pop divas, we have bands from the 80s and 90s, we have classic icons. It’s like something for everyone, which I love.”

Today’s Clash of Cover Bands pays homage to the country’s kings. This episode starred Adam Tucker as the cover of Tim McGraw and Adam Rutledge as the cover of Keith Urban. The jury was looking for an artist who could pour his heart out and relate to everyone in the audience. These impersonators both saw the same experts, but the Tim McGraw impersonator reigned victorious.
The Tim McGraw impersonator is a former football player who became a fan of the singer in 1992. When he got into McGraw’s music, he was quarterback on his college football team. On long bus rides, the impersonator sang country music to the other footballers.
He always knew he wanted to make music, but record companies rejected his voice because it was too similar to Tim McGraw. From then on, he decided to keep pursuing his dreams, no matter how hard it might be. He brought his three West Virginia bandmates to the competition.
The impersonator looked and sounded like McGraw when he first took the stage. After he finished his song, Adam Lambert commented that both Adam and his band gave Tim McGraw an authentic stage presence. The only weak point they noticed was his singing. He had too much twang, they couldn’t understand what he was saying. They also stated that he was a bit stiff on stage so he would see a movement expert in addition to the vocal expert.
This Keith Urban impersonator only needed a wig to look like the singer
The Keith Urban impersonator is a total family man from Virginia. Before becoming a Keith Urban impersonator, he had his own rock band for ten years. He came to Urban’s music because of the impressive guitar playing. This impersonator also brought bandmates to the competition. Just before he took the stage, he changed into Urban with a wig. This wig really was the icing on the cake for his look.
By featuring the Keith Urban impersonator, Meghan Trainor pointed out his similarities to the actual singer. After the performance, Trainor admitted that she loves Keith Urban, but the impersonator’s role lacked stage comfort. Urban is usually relaxed on stage and it was obvious the impersonator was nervous. This impersonator was also paired with the voice and movement experts.
Both impersonators were mentored by both stage presence expert Ray Leeper and vocal coach Kuk Harrell. They pushed the Keith Urban impersonator not only to look like the singer, but to act like him too. They helped him find both inspiration behind his singing and a new groove on stage.
When the pundits met with the McGraw impersonator, their main focus was on moving him across the stage. Much like the Keith Urban impersonator, they tried to help him find solace on stage. Accompanying his new stage presence, the vocal coach helped him find the best spots for his twang.
Both impersonators returned to the stage with obvious improvements
The battle round started with the Tim McGraw impersonator standing on a couch on stage, which quickly got people screaming. These groups were seriously neck and neck, but personally I liked the Keith Urban impersonator better. His stage presence was much more pleasant this time. Both impersonators’ improvements were noted in the judges’ comments.
“Oh my god you guys up here killing it I’m like wow!” said Esther Dean. “I also worked with Kuk, the vocal expert, and he showed me how to feel music and I felt the music tonight. It showed you studied, it showed you listened to our expert and then brought it to the stage. I just thank you for that.”
Though both impersonators improved tremendously, they still had to decide which of the singers was the real king of the land. Adam Tucker as Tim McGraw was announced as the third Clash of the Cover bands winner. They now walk away with $10,000, an appearance on The Jimmy Fallon Show and a chance to compete for the crowning glory of ultimate cover band at the end of the season.
