New Allegations Emerge In Sealed Court Filing
A sealed court filing accuses Nashville construction manager Dean Chase of accepting money from investors and then using that money to help his son stave off domestic violence charges.
Those charges against David Chase were eventually dropped.
Dean Chase “entered into personal dealings at the expense of the plaintiffs, the partners and the partnership, for his own benefit and for the benefit of David Chase,” the court filings read.
It claims, “Dean Chase’s behavior and patterns of behavior with himself were intentional.”
The allegations surfaced in an amended lawsuit filed in an ongoing court case against Dean Chase by a group of investors in a proposed Virgin Hotel project on Nashville’s Music Row.
Davidson County Chancellor Ellen Hobbs Lyle recently ordered the new document sealed, but an employee inadvertently provided it when NewsChannel 5 Investigates asked to see the file.
At the time of David Chase’s arrest nearly three years ago, he was the developer of this hotel project.
With those allegations still looming, Dean Chase took charge of the project and then began recruiting investors.
The amended lawsuit alleges that Chase oversaw the hiring of veteran public relations consultant Bill Fletcher through the Nashville law firm Waller, who worked on the hotel development project.
What Fletcher actually did, the lawsuit alleges, was work on David Chase’s defense, including putting together a focus group report aimed at convincing the Nashville DA that “a trial would be a waste of taxpayers’ money.”

Here’s how Fletcher described his job to NewsChannel 5 Investigates in February:
“I was approached by an attorney for Dean Chase’s business,” he recalled.
“This was a case – a very serious case. We didn’t really try to win him over in the court of public opinion. We tried to stop a young man from going to prison unjustly. So it was primarily the legal strategy.”
But, according to testimony in a separate lawsuit also obtained by NewsChannel 5 Investigates, Dean Chase’s attorneys blocked efforts to question him about his exact agreement with Fletcher.
The amended complaint also alleges that the Waller law firm “billed for services on behalf of David Chase” and that payments were made from the accounts of hotel investors, NV Partners.
“Neither the statements nor the payments were disclosed to the partners at the same time and were not proper partnership obligations,” the filing adds.
Recently, a new legal team objected to the amended lawsuit, alleging that it contained “outrageous and scandalous allegations” unrelated to the investors’ basic claims — including allegations that Dean Chase later sold the property for the hotel below market prices because of his own “need for money”.
The allegations regarding David Chase’s case “are intended solely to continue harassing and attempting to embarrass Dean Chase and other third parties,” Dean Chase’s attorney says in his filing.
Chancellor Lyle has scheduled a hearing next week on whether to order investors to drop these latest allegations from their lawsuit.
Attorneys for both sides in the lawsuit declined to comment.
