On April 26, 1895, Maria and her mother implore Domenico to marry her in a busy bar, but he refuses again, saying “not even a pig would marry you”, causing Maria to finally freak out. She takes a razor blade from her pocket and slits his throat. Maria is arrested immediately after the many witnesses identify her. Unable to tell her side of the story fairly, she is found guilty and sentenced to death. Luckily, after three years on death row, she is granted a retrial where her abuse at the hands of Domenico is finally recounted. She is cleared of all charges and later marries a good man and starts a family of her own. In Birmingham, England, Zatoon Bibi begins an affair with a married man, Tanveer Iqbal. Zatoon eventually leaves her husband Gul Nawaz to be with Tanveer and enters into a polygamous relationship with him and his wife Nazrine. However, she wants Nazrine out of the picture and begins sending her photos of herself and Tanveer having sex. Her plan soon backfires, prompting Tanveer to throw her out of the house instead. Zatoon is furious and lures her former lover to her apartment on January 13, 2016. There, she, her ex-husband, and their fifteen-year-old son, Kashim Nawaz, strangle him before placing his body in a box and disposing of it in his car out of town. Surveillance cameras give away the killer family and all three are found guilty. Gul gets life imprisonment and must serve twenty-five years, Kashim must serve at least six years, and the mastermind, Zatoon, receives the maximum sentence: life imprisonment with a minimum of twenty-seven years.

After a difficult childhood, Misook Nowlin from Bloomington, Illinois has finally found love in the arms of her husband, Don Wang. The two are madly in love, and Don’s mother, Linda Tyda, is happy to treat Misook like her own daughter. But the happy family is soon torn apart when Linda avoids her daughter-in-law after Misook is caught shoplifting. Neither Don nor Linda will post bail and she remains in jail for eight days. There she plans revenge. She persuades a waitress to call Linda and ask her to be her interpreter at a meeting. When Linda arrives, she is shocked to see Misook instead, but Misook insists that she only wants to pay Linda back the money she once took from her. The two women end up in Misook’s sewing workshop and things get really bad. Linda is hit in the head with a hammer by her daughter-in-law, and then Misook strangles her to death before stuffing her body in a container and burying her in a shallow grave on the outskirts of town. She is sentenced to 55 years in prison. She was also suspected in the 1998 murder of her ex-boyfriend’s three-year-old daughter, Christina McNeil, but was never charged. Styllou Christofi is moving to the UK from Cyprus to be with her son Stavros, his wife Hella and three grandchildren. Things don’t go well from the start, and Styllou is constantly judging her daughter-in-law. On July 29, 1954, Stavros is working the night shift, leaving Styllou at home alone with his wife. Styllou hatches a brutal plan. She hits her daughter-in-law in the head with an ash pan before strangling her with a scarf and burning her body. The police find it hard to believe that a grandmother could commit a crime as brutal as this until she investigates her past. In 1925, back in Cyprus, a young Styllou had problems with her own mother-in-law, and with the help of two accomplices, killed her by shoving a flaming torch down her throat. She is hanged for Hella’s murder on December 13, 1954, becoming the second to last woman executed in Britain before the death penalty was abolished. Sarah Vercauteren of Salem Township, Pennsylvania is a loving mother and recovering heroin addict. She and her son live with their mother, Dawn Marie Wagner. Everything is going great until Sarah relapses and starts using heroin again. Her mother is stuck and decides to kick her out after the holidays, but that day won’t come for Dawn. On New Year’s Eve 2013, Sarah beats her mother with a hammer and strangles her too before leaving her body tied up in the bathroom. She is first charged with robbery after robbing a bank, but a new charge of first-degree murder is later added, and Sarah soon confesses. She is sentenced to life imprisonment without parole.

She spends his money quickly, drugs him and makes it appear like he has dementia so he won’t intervene. However, as it runs out, she decides that William is worth more dead than alive. On September 19, 1989, she and her husband move into a hotel room and she puts her plan into action. She hits him with her fists, kicks him with her cowboy boots, and even sexually assaults him with foreign objects. She is found guilty of the agonizing death of William and sentenced to death, which is overturned to life without parole in 2013. Megan Haines has a history of abusing elderly patients, but she still manages to land a job at an Australian care home. Her elder abuse continues and three patients remain at the center of her abuse, Marie Darragh, 82, Isabella Spencer, 77, and another woman. Patients begin to complain, and to keep them calm, Megan poisons Marie and Isabella with insulin in May 2014, although luckily the third patient escapes and exposes Megan’s abuse, eventually exposing her for her crimes. Megan Haines is sentenced to 27 to 36 years in prison. Martha “Patty” Cannon is a tavern owner in 1820s Delaware, but she runs another secret business: kidnapping freed slaves before selling them again. Her tavern is popular with other slave traders, but Patty doesn’t care about human lives and kills many, including slaves and her own paying customers. She even burns alive the baby of one of her slaves, after suspecting it to be the child of the slave and her cheating husband. She is eventually arrested in 1829, but commits suicide in prison rather than face the executioner. She is known to have killed at least four, but it could be as many as 11 or more.

She begins an affair with Nathaniel “Nate” Jackson, a career criminal and a man almost half her age, behind the back of her divorced but cohabiting ex-husband Robert Fingerhut. Even with Nate in prison, their bond grows stronger and they plot to kill Robert. When Nate is released from prison, Donna leaves home while Nate kills Robert on December 11, 2001, just two weeks before Christmas. Nate protests Donna’s innocence, but they both end up receiving the death penalty. Donna becomes the only woman currently on death row in Ohio. Robert’s story was also featured in more detail on For My Man. In Jasper, Alabama, in 1997 at the age of 28, Shonda Johnson is married five times but is also a serial bigamist who is married to three men, one being Randy McCullar and another being Tim Richards. When Randy finds out about Shonda’s secret life, he threatens to take her children away from her and she is quickly arrested. While awaiting trial, she manipulates Tim to get rid of Randy. Tim and Shonda follow Randy and Tim shoots him. Richards is sentenced to life in prison for pleading guilty and testifying against Shonda. He was eligible for parole in 2013 until he escaped prison thirteen months before his parole date, with the possibility that that parole was revoked upon arrest. Meanwhile, Shonda receives the death penalty, but is brought to life without parole in 2014. In Ottawa, Canada, Gurpreet Ronald and Bhupinderpal Gil are neighbors who are having an illicit affair. Gurpreet wants Bhupinderpal all to himself but he will not leave his wife Jagtar due to financial strains and losing custody of his children. Desperate, Gurpreet hatches a plan with Bhupinderpal to kill Jagtar, in which Gurpreet bludgeons and cuts her to death on January 29, 2014. Both Gurpreet and Bhupinderpal are sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Jackie’s sister comes forward with information about Carl’s death, but it hasn’t been confirmed. 34 years later, Jackie is finally arrested and found guilty in 2016 and sentenced to 30 years in prison. This investigation is still ongoing as their killers have not yet been identified. Bob and Martha Ann McClancy move to Tennessee from Florida because Bob, a veteran, has PTSD. The pair befriend a comrade, Chuck Kaczmarczyk, who has also experienced PTSD. Martha and Chuck’s friendship deepens and eventually they begin an affair. Martha is later overcome by greed and devises a plan to kill Bob. Her first attempt to kill him fails, but on May 15, 2006, Bob dies of an overdose of his own medication. Mike and Ellen Snyder both work in the automotive business and appear to be a perfect couple, but Mike has multiple sclerosis and Ellen takes up gambling, resulting in Mike divorcing her. In January 2002, their argument ended with Ellen shooting Mike eight times. In the days that follow, she uses an excavator and her teenage son Michael to dump his body. The murder went unsolved for eight years until her son finally confessed in 2010.
