Early life[edit]

Ouellet was born on December 8, 1984 in Dakar, Senegal.[1] At the age of one he was adopted by Canadian diplomats.[2] He lived in France, Rwanda and Tunisia[3] before his family returned to Quebec City when he was 15.[2] Ouellet learned to play the piano, drums and guitar as a child and recounted how he composed his first song when he was seven. Career [edit]

Ouellet released his debut album Plume[4] in 2011 and took second place in that year’s Francoouvertes competition.[1][5] He has toured extensively, including appearances at the Francofolies de La Rochelle,[1][6] Osheaga[7][8] and SXSW festivals.[9]

He followed with Fox in November 2012. He received three nominations at the 2013 Félix Awards, including Best Male Vocalist, Best Single for “L’Amour” and Pop Album of the Year. He was also named Radio-Canada’s Best New Artist that year.[11] Fox won Francophone Album of the Year at the 2014 Juno Awards. [12] [13]

Quebec singer Karim Ouellet died of diabetes complications coroner

A coroner’s report has revealed that popular Quebec singer Karim Ouellet died in a Quebec studio two months before his body was found.

Coroner Sophie Régnière concluded that drug use prevented Karim Ouellet from properly controlling his diabetes, but he did not die of an overdose.

The singer’s body was found on January 17 after the owner of his building called 911 to report a bad smell.

Other tenants last saw Ouellet alive in the shared building where he rented a music studio in November 2021.

The police saw no signs of violence on Ouellet’s body. He was pronounced dead from afar around 11pm.

An autopsy found traces of methamphetamine in his blood and high levels of ketones, indicating diabetic ketoacidosis, a serious complication of diabetes. Left untreated, the condition can lead to coma and death within hours. Cocaine was also found in the studio.

history of medical problems

Based on his medical records, Ouellet suffered from type 1 diabetes, for which he was insulin dependent.

The singer also struggled with a substance use disorder.

According to the report, he began using cocaine recreationally in 2019 and quickly developed an addiction. In May 2020, he was hospitalized twice for diabetic ketoacidosis after neglecting his diabetes for almost a year. He did not explain to the doctors why he stopped taking care of his condition.

But the coroner’s report says Ouellet was hospitalized at the age of 17 because he refused to take his insulin and was struggling to cope with diabetes. He was also afraid of hospitals.

In October 2021, he was found unconscious and rushed to a Quebec City hospital for severe hypoglycemia and poisoning. He refused treatment and left the hospital the same day, despite nurses’ insistence that he see a doctor.

The circumstances of his death lead authorities to believe that Ouellet died on November 15, 2021.
