Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory and his brother Terry “Southwest T” Flenory run an Atlanta-based drug empire that spans 11 states and makes over $270 million in profits before authorities shut down operations. The Black Mafia Family (BMF) survived a conflict between Big Meech and Southwest, but collapsed after informants provided information to the police.
50 Cent’s hit Starz series BMF focuses on BMF’s drug operation and delves into aspects of Big Meech’s personal life. Some of the show’s most touching scenes involve Meech’s family and his parents, Charles and Lucille Flenory.
Big Meech’s parents were not involved in their sons’ drug dealing
Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory was born on June 21, 1968 in Cleveland, Ohio to Charles and Lucille Flenory. Charles and Lucille later welcomed Terry Flenory and a daughter named Nicole.
Terry and Demetrius began selling drugs in the late 1980s while in high school. The small drug business eventually grew into a multi-million dollar business.
Big Meech’s parents were not involved in their sons’ businesses. “Neither of my parents had any drug or drinking habits,” Meech told All Hip Hop. Prosecutors found nothing to charge Charles and Lucille with, as they played no role in the drug trade.
Sadly, Charles Flenory passed away in early July 2017. On the 4th anniversary of Charles’ death, Lucille posted the following message on Instagram:
“Yesterday 4 years. Before 07/08/17. God called you home. Time flies but the pain of losing you is still hard to bear. We love and miss you always and forever!”
During the group’s drug smuggling era, Lucille had nothing to do with BMF, but is now firmly associated with the brand. She sells BMF branded items and has shown support for the BMF series. Lucille once organized a fundraiser on Custom Ink to discourage people from selling counterfeit BMF merchandise. She wrote:
“There are many sellers who have sold BMF clothing without a permit and none of the profits go to the family. This is the only official clothing line authorized and designed by the one and only Lucille “Big Meech Mom” Flenory! If you don’t see the double L logo for Mamma Meech, it’s unofficial. Think “Family First”.
Lucille enjoys Michole White’s portrayal of her character in BMF. White and Lucille look alike (Great choice STARZ, Lucille wrote on Instagram) and appear to have formed a strong friendship. Lucille wrote:
“We look like we might be related. And when I met her mother and sisters at the premiere, it was amazing how much alike her mother and I were. Wow! I’m so impressed with their performances of me on the show. From what I saw when I met Michole, her personality that brings together her beauty and our friendship will transcend this series.
Big Meech’s mother continues to campaign for Meech’s release from prison
Unlike his brother Southwest, Big Meech failed to secure an early release from prison. Southwest’s sentence was reduced by six years and he later left prison to complete his sentence under house arrest after authorities approved his compassionate release.
A judge reduced Meech’s sentence by three years but refused to release him out of compassion. Meech is set to be released in 2028, but his attorney, Wade Fink, is confident Meech can persuade prison authorities to release him earlier.
Meech is heavily involved in charitable causes, and Wade thinks Meech’s efforts can support his next request for release. Wade told The U.S. Sun:
“What’s so remarkable about Big Meech is that every time he comes out, he’s determined to do everything in his power to prevent the life he’s been pursuing. I feel that Big Meech’s importance in our community makes his commitment to helping people potentially exceptional and compelling reason to have his sentence reduced.”
Lucille posted a screenshot of The Sun’s article and expressed her joy that her prayers for Meech’s release may come true. “GOD HAS A PLAN FOR MY SON… Man can plan to keep him in chains but all power is in His hands… GOD HAS A PLAN!” Lucille captioned the post.
Lucille has occasionally provided updates on Meech’s life in prison. She spoke to Atlanta radio station V103 about Meech’s reception of Rick Ross’ song BMF. Lucille explained that she loved the track as it acknowledged Meech. She added that BMF is a popular song in Meech’s prison:
“One of our friends in ATL played the song for Meech on the phone and he listened to the song and really liked it. He appreciated the song. He said the boys in prison were ranting and gushing about the song.”
She disapproved of Meech’s drug business, but she praised him as a brilliant man with excellent business acumen. Lucille added that she raised her children in the Christian religion and was pleased with the outcome. She added:
“Meech is family oriented. He loves his family of her (ATL) he made and he loves his blood family. I have a lot of respect for my son because he has a great character, he is a man of integrity and a very loyal man.”
